how do you delete a single file from the trash without emptying it totally, resorting to an automator or terminal trick, apple patented the slide and lock can we have a built in single file trash?
it's 2012 FFS,
- ideaist0
Terminal brother -> http://www.maclife.com/article/h…
; )
- mekk0
haha, good one. not possible nativeley but there is a solution:
open the terminal and write "rm" then drag the file you want to delete. now hit enter and its gone.
just as simple as slide to unlock

Accidentally download some porn?
- GeorgesII0
so there's no one in cupertino thinking that would be a good idea to implement this function?
i was just sick of having to go through the terminal route when i just could right click delete said "stalionnecroporn.wmv" file from my disk- You could always just empty the entire trash bin. It's trash, right?monospaced
- Yup. You're deleting it wrong!ORAZAL
- My PC let's me delete an individual file in trash. Pretty handy... :)ETM
- bulletfactory0
Long way:
create a "misc" folder on your desktop. open trash > select all > deselect single file to be deleted > move rest of files to new folder > empty trash, move 'misc' into trash.
- chossy0
When you want to delete something move it to a folder called trash, when you want to ACTUALLY delete something hit cmd shift and backspace innit.
- dopepope0
Why do you need things to remain in trash while others must go? Isn't trash, trash?
- monospaced0
Never in my life have I ever wanted that function.
- because you're....
aaaaaah fuck itGeorgesII - You gonna call me a retard for not wanting to delete one file from the trash and not the rest? Wow.monospaced
- its true, he was a little harsh. But of course there are reasons why you might want to delete one file.Jamiehutber
- hhhmmm
didn't say a word, don't justify the dumbing down of the comp worldGeorgesII - All I said is that it never crossed my mind to even want that function. As in, I don't need it. Damn.monospaced
- No need to single me out or insult me. FFS. I'm not alone here.monospaced

I always fill my trash to the brim and empty it all in one swoop, after verifying that I'm not trashing something important (happens often)
so here's my problem,
>>>>>>>>>> USB DRIVE <<<<<<<<<<<<
when it's full and you want to make some space you need to put everything in the trash then empty it, to gain the space,
my problem is, when I'm on the run and only want to delete a certain number of files,
a trash is a trash, but gimme the fuckn capability to empty it selectively
but sometimes when I need to empty- "the brim?"monospaced
- ok - this makes sense.bulletfactory
- brim means filled to the edge or maxGeorgesII
- duhset
- The trash can get full? I had no idea.monospaced
- oh dearset
- bulletfactory0
I think it can be done in windows. You should probably scrap your Mac and buy a PC.
Or nut up and make a command decision to delete something like a man when you put it in the trash, instead of being wishy-washy about it. :)
- haha. and yes, can delete selected files in trash in windowssine
- set0
You used to be able to hold shift > right click and it gave the option to delete permanently. They done tooked it off.
- GeorgesII0
I fuckn hate you guys,
all of you :)seriously, is it possible to ever ask to get a basic function in a mac without hearing the tired, hey just buy a case, hey it's ok to have a brand new product with scratches, you're holding it wrong,
can I just have a function that is used by most of the world and that has been going on since I got my first computer, how hard can it fuckn be
did i mention i fuckn hate you all,
- How about this? Stop buying piece of shit products! Get a Dell and know your money is well spent.monospaced
- Jamiehutber0
that is just another reason why i don't understand mac... running on a linux system. Meaning, of course it can do almost anything you can dream up. Yet apple refuse to include these UI things in their OS's :(

Email the file away from your computer
- chossy0
My method is perfect in every way.
- set0
So is mine. Email the file out of your machine. Simple.
Send it off into the webs.
- It cost's $1 for every file deleted for the internet though.chossy
- Unless you live in Canada and it's free. They struck a deal with taiwan, chossy
- True, and emails cost 20c each as well so it could be quite costly. Hadn't thought of that.set
- Oh shit I never paid my email bill this month I'M FUCKED!!!chossy
- monospaced0
Seriously. Why do you even use a Mac? Everything Apple makes is clearly inferior and all you ever hear are stories about how shitty they are and how they just make things shiny and charge too much for them. You should just go get a Dell and run Windows where everything is better in every way. Then you won't have to complain about Apple. They are evil you know, they don't even like their customers.
- Monocunt is backset
- Hey, I'm just joining in on the rant, dude. Isn't that what this thread is about?monospaced

time is the factor here,
time is the factor here,
i don't always have the time to transfer everything via web,
so there's no other way,
plus isn't replying,
- chossy0
If you can't email the file then it is corrupt, so you should print out the code of the file then fax it to the internet, that should take care of it. If the file is indeed corrupt.
- Yolo0
how can you have anything in the bin for longer than 30 seconds
how much gb can you put in it?
