all the objects I place on masterpages end up lying behind objects I place on the page instance after it is inserted into the document flow.
To be specific, crop and score marks that I draw on masterpages are hidden behind everything else.
any way to get them to lie on top?

What about putting them on an upper layer?

Yep, put the master page elements on a top/higher layer than your page content. I think master page items default to 'behind' if you just use one layer...

While editing your master page add a layer, move said layer to the top of the stack, put all your stuff on it that you want to be on top, and lock the layer so you can't add anything to it on the other pages.

I'm confused. So start with a blank master page, add a layer and put all my stuff in it. ctrl+] a bunch of time to move it to the top, lock the layer and then exit the master page?
- yeah that does it. Thanks everyoneepigraph
- just select all and drag it all to the top layer at once (layer pallette)monospaced
