What do you think of this "new style"? Is electronic music finally popular?

So that's essentially an article about Electric Daisy Carnival, in which they're trying to generalize the entire EDM scene based on what happens there, how people dress, etc. OK, got it.

I never heard of such type of music.

My aunt was visiting a while back (late 40s/early 50s) for our wedding reception and asked if I knew who Skrillex was. Her 16 year old son loves him, and got his dad (early 50s) into it - he took the son and a friend to see Skrillex outdoors near San Antonio, TX and totally loved it.
After threatening to turn the restaurant table upside down and get us all thrown out, I relaxed and said when I'm not busy, I'll do them both a favor and send a CD of actual good electronic music. I have not done this yet; I want to them to suffer enough that they'll love me forever.

How long did disco last in US after it reached the mainstream again?
Maybe they will be rednecks blowing up laptops and copies of NI software in the middle of the baseball field this time.
Seriously tho, EDM.. IDM was bad enough..

Also, these kind of massive parties are a bit different from what the original rave movement was. and the majority of attendance is kids since they are usually 18 and up, sometimes 16 and up.

This is probably one of the reason why it's getting so big, lots of young people want to live something like this and they get exited at festivals or shows that are similar to this.
look at Coachella, the stage and lighting set up are getting bigger and bigger every year for these shows
also, this freaking song has been played/remixed by every single dj at Coachella

"EDM" is basically the "Black Eyed Peas" or the "Britney Spears" of the moment. As a rule of thumb, if people say "I like EDM" that means they are completely clueless about music and that's totally fine.
EDM is a marketing term to describe extremely vaguely the culture of people that pay hundreds of dollars to consume whatever 'DJ' (as they label it) in front of them, pretending to improvise a music selection of model tracks that are being played over and over by every guy on that festival. Is like that friend you have that only listens to that one popular track on a cd and ignores every other track by that artist just because it doesn't get radio play.
