democracy right,
do you think this group could have come back the next day and danced there without facing repercussions.
freedom right?
why P.R. should be allowed to do things that are actually not allowed outside of russia,
- ********0
"Protest and pissing people off is a right in a democratic country. Or should be :D"
in a house of worship it isn't and it shouldn't.

like fred phelps & gang aren't allowed to put on their show on cemeteries. they need to stay out with their opinions.

The point of their protest is that the Russian Orthodox Church and Putin are working hand in hand. The church in Russia is almost like a state religion, they get millions from the government and then tell their followers to vote for Putin. Boo hoo if their feelings were hurt.
Of course no one should be above the law but two years sentence for a few minutes performance is ridiculous.
- Didn't the evangelist did the same with bush? I remember the free speech zones do you?GeorgesII
- Sure, Bush bad, Putin bad. You don't have to pick a side.ukit2
- This is exactly what I'm saying, it pisses me off to see people get behind these farces when people are dyin in more horredous human rights violation, P.R is making a farce of it and hiding behind free speechGeorgesII

This is what a bit smarter system does to unwanted pop stars:
You invite them to some ridiculous show and get them ridiculized in the face of 90% of population, insisting on key values such as: family, law, religion... And you cut a bit of this and that, creating your own context. No need for prison. Red necks are happy, punks are happy, nothing changes - system (dictator or whatever) is happy.

Putin is a coward....come at me bro
- i_monk0
They wanted to piss people off, so they should be in jail for that. Is that the argument now?
- ukit20
I think the argument is offend Jesus, and you deserve to go to a prison colony for two years.

I think Putin's plan is to pardon them, so he can look all grand and magnanimous and shit.

read the last messages and I'm supposed to be the crazy one in here. if I follow your way of thinking,
this poor kid should have never gotten 16 months in jail, after all he was just protesting, he just threw a few eggs, he did a mistake, he wanted to piss people off, he didn't want to offend the queen, he didn't hurt anyone, the judge shouldn't use him as an example.. BRITAIN IS A DICTATORSHIP, yadayadayada
from the article:
...Charlie Gilmour, 21, reeled in shock as he was handed a 16-month sentence for his ‘outrageous and deeply offensive behaviour’ during a drug-fuelled rampage that also saw him attack Prince Charles’s car. ...
...Yesterday the yob tried to excuse his behaviour, saying that he had not known it was the Cenotaph. But Judge Nicholas Price scoffed at the excuse, saying: ‘For you, a young man of undoubted high intelligence, education and background, to profess you didn’t know what the Cenotaph represented defies belief...
However, he accepted that Gilmour had shown contrition the day after his actions, and stressed that his antics at the Cenotaph did not form part of the violent disorder charge...."
16 MONTHS

^ There is plenty of evidence to suggest the character of Jesus in the New Testement is at least based on a real historical man. There are Roman records of executions of people like John the Baptist who supposedly knew Jesus. They were all loud mouth Jews who were were silenced by the authorities.

a bit late, but good to see I'm not such a ign'ant cunt after all,
I beg everyone who posted here to take the time to do some research before jumping onto the next manufactured outrage,
please for the sake of the discussion lets all grow up together :)

The west's hypocrisy over Pussy Riot is breathtakingOur courts now jail at the drop of a headline – for stealing water or abuse sent on Twitter. So who are we to condemn Russia?

I know it's easy to beat georges with the same ol' stick (that he conveniently provides, so he can be beat with it) but he's not been wrong here.
Although I'm 'on-side' where Syria and all these recent poxy clashes with Russia and China are concerned, I've become increasingly conscious of the very fine line between polarities... or, better put - the fact that they don't exist as before.
We're as guilty as they are here, and these days we're the bigger meddlers in affairs that are not our own.
We're not 'right', is the point. We always used to be...
