No 3/4G = no thanks.
- Depends where you live. My ISP is HQ'd here and has free wifi all over, so not an issue.ETM

That Chameleon skin thing is way too busy, but it does what Metro (or whatever MS calls their tile system) set out to do, better.
- but its customiseable... you can tailor the panel sizestrooperbill

It looks good and it's so inexpensive. I'm going to buy one ..
I guess Apple must be feeling pretty sorry they didn't decide to bring out a smaller tablet??
- They still can and grab that market, too. Price just has to be right.ETM
- I don't think Apple feels sorry. They sell gazillions of iPads just as they are.monospaced
- they would only be sorry if the smaller tablets actually outsell the iPads and GENERATE PROFITSmonospaced
- Yes, yes fanboy :DETM
- am I wrong?monospaced
- fanboy detected********
- if you say so... I don't even own a tabletmonospaced
- Why would Apple not care about money not being made in a viable market?ETM
- mono is right, iPad IS the tablet market right now. And making shitloads of money.ernexbcn
- One that requires little for them to enter except to modify an existing product.ETM
- @ETM, that logic would state that Apple should make all products that existmonospaced
- oh, wow, you slipped in a sidebar before my comment went throughmonospaced
- To reiterate... it would require little for them to enter. Not creating a whole new product.ETM

I think the reasonable success of the Galaxy Note and the demand for this Nexus 7 should show Apple that there is a market demand existing somewhere between full tablet and smartphone.
I would much prefer a smaller iPad for travelling and a current one for home use. Especially with iCloud.
- Well Apple is supposedly going to release a smaller iPad according to rumors.ernexbcn
- ernexbcn0
@lukus_W2 not really, they are making shitloads of money with their 10 inch tablet and it's selling pretty good. There's not really a tablet market right now but an iPad market.
Google is going to sell these at cost or at a loss.
- But it is the best Android device I've seen so far.ernexbcn
- Yes, yes fanboy :Dmonospaced
- fanboy detectedmonospaced
- you've seen one?monospaced
- Not yet but a friend is getting one soon apparently.ernexbcn
- so, it's really just the best Android device you've heard of then...monospaced
- Emexbcn - I've always thought you were a wise upstanding QBN citizen .. this is the final proof!!lukus_W2
- mono you gotta admit is a decent tablet + OS finally.ernexbcn

- I like how everyone is saying "it's an iPad market". It was the case Android tablets wouldn't have 40% of the market.monolith

I would love a tablet that's the size of a medium moleskin.
- Galaxy Note?ernexbcn
- I think this is going to be just that.lukus_W2
- I bought a Galaxy S3 - I thought it was too big at first .. but seriously, it's the perfect size for a phone.lukus_W2
- I think Android has finally come of age .. v4.0 is very good.lukus_W2
- I have an Galaxy S2 and it's starting to feel small.i_monk

Nexus 7 touchscreen defect
- All first gens have defects. Suck it early adopters!i_monk
- seriously? it's not like they never built a touch screen before.ernexbcn
- Looks like something a software update could fix though.ETM
- I hope so!ernexbcn
- If turning it off and on fixes it, it's not hardware.ETM

Excited to see good responses, thought it would be another boring tablet release (somehow Google, as superb as it is at execution, hasn't been able to grasp what "quality" means in hardware).
Anyone want to buy an unused iPad3?
- You're basing this opinion on what? Once video on the internet? You own one do you?ETM

my interest high on this product, despite unboxing. Especially coming from an iPad v1. The thing was cool at first but with the ios updates, its gotten slower and battery life goes a bit quicker. I held out forever on doing an update because I know it bonks your ipad (like the updates did with iphones, almost rendering it unusable).
Now with apple basically on ipad3 (retina display) and now rumored to do the smaller tablet, ipad4... I can only imagine support or usability for my dinosaur 2yr old ipad is going to be minimal. Its quite heavy for casual use on the train too. I have a dodo case on it. Maybe I can use it for a big ass remote with that optimum app or netflix in bed... which is alright.
This Nexus 7 looks pretty good, has the right hardware, runs the apps I need, is light, and a great price. To top it off, no BS iOS gimmicky BS (retina display) or other shit thats not relevant to my wallet and what my wallet gives a fuck about.

Every touchscreen device outside of apple's newest iphone/ipads has always had a slight lag in the time from touching the screen to things actually moving on it.
The iphone 4s is instant, but looking at the nexus videos above I notice a delay on these. Why can no one get the touchscreen right aside from apple.
A friend has the newest samsung galaxy and even just swiping between icon screens isn't as smooth as on my 4S/

Seems like a good choice for people who doesn't want to pay like 600$ for an iPad.
Personally, i just can't wait to change my iPhone 3gs for the upcoming iPhone 5... The larger screen announced is more than welcome.
- a) it's not called iPhone 5
b) they didn't announce a larger screen
c) iPads start at $500 or cheapermonospaced

iPad has two major new device category teething problems: weight and price. I almost never carry mine with me, it usually makes more sense to grab the MacBook Air instead—not that much heavier and does everything I need from a computer, portable or not.
Most use the iPad gets, is web browsing on the couch.
Nexus 7 seems to be just what I need—will fit in a larger pocket, is only a tad heavier than Kindle, finally has good performance and it's as cheap as such a basic device should be.
- True.ernexbcn
- I agree with all this, but I would prefer to wait for a smaller ipad to come out.nocomply
- But really... Owning the ipad has made me realize that I simply don't *need* a tablet.nocomply

All iOS devices have been very good at detecting touches since the 1st iPhone. One of my gripes of the early Android devices (and some might still have them) is failure to detect touches sometimes.
- Project Butter is pretty much an admission that Android has sucked in this dept the whole timeanimatedgif
- and still sucks in responsiveness judging from web browsing on a nexus 7animatedgif

Finally. Got mine a little while ago.
First impressions.
What I like:
-Nice build quality, good weight, fits nice in one hand.
-I like the size/form factor more than I thought (so far).
-I find touch to be responsive. A small hit when browsing, but nothing that affects the experience.
-Jelly Bean in general is very responsive and smooth as reviews have indicated.
-Like that it is a Nexus device, rather than carrier device, so I can get updates and new products from Google right away.
-Comes with free movie and $25 Play credit (like) but it's Transformers: Dark of the Moon (dislike). What don't I like:
-Not having a physical home button like my iPad. Kept trying to touch down there.
-Why rotation is locked to portrait I don't know, but fixable in settings.
-Turn by Turn nav is great... if it had 3G/LTE. My ISP has a lot of free wifi all over the city and growing, but still can't do that driving.I'll spend more time with it and grab a few apps that I also have on my iPad for direct comparisons.
- Dislike: Google Play Music portion not available here (Canada) U.S only right now.ETM

any other likes or dislikes? thinking about getting one.
