I understand that dumb lost people can join cults and stuff. But why are celebrities Scientologists?

Are their lives secretly so sad that they're able to be brainwashed?

I'd say it's perfectly possible for a celebrity to be dumb and lost.

Yawn,
no offense but I think you have that backward,
Celebrities endorse things and when they do the plebes follow,
no matter how crazy it sounds,
would you say the same for the celebs who convert to judaism?
Nope, because it's cool and trendy to talk about the CS,look mate, don't want to be a dick or nothing but you've got a mormon running for president, maybe you should look into it instead of wasting your time on hollywood/clearwater bs
- But celebrities weren't the first Scientologists and Romney was born into Mormonism.********
- You missed my point.********
- your point sounded like this to me "lololol, they so stupid, joining cult n shit, lolol" there's no real point to itgeorgesIII

I saw a strange documentary about celebrity addictions and celebrity enterouges where one guy said that, if you're a fading, drug-addicted movie star, long after your family has deserted you, long after your freinds and industry contacts have given up on you, you may have an automatic enterouge of a few people from a cult you once or twice went to a meeting at, they will follow you around and provide you a place to sleep other than skid row, and feed you and help you till you start going to their cult meetings again and .... voila... you're one of them again and supposedly on a road to recovery....

One other strangely scary thing about scientology, and probably other religions and cults... at the first few meetings, you're supposedly confessing your deepest fears and deepest regrets and most horrible deeds.... that's something they can use against you in the future once you become a famous movie star, they can ruin you if they want to.... if you ever say anything against them.... or leave them, like be ready for all sorts of crap to show up in the press about Tom Cruise's soon-to-be-ex-wife....

How is it worse than any other religion?
- It's not, it's just newer - we get to see the birth and early life of a religion; fascinating insight into how all the others began.mikotondria3
- it's worse in that scientology has killed people for revealing secrets. say what
ebertzjaw - ..you want about mainstream religions, but they dont do that.
they call it 'fair game' doctrine.ebertzjaw - because other religions dont kill at all.moldero

The "new-era" Scientology symbol is an "S" curving through two triangles. The "S" stands for Scientology. The top triangle represents a set of Scientology factors — knowledge, responsibility and control. Collectively the first three factors make up the KRC triangle. The lower triangle consists of the ARC triangle of affinity, reality and communication.

it occurred to me the other day that scientologists might well be blackmailing said celebs into declaring their love for the science lord so that dumb sheep will follow.
I mean seriously you can't be THAT fucking dumb and still become a millionaire, right??

February 22: Celebrity Day
This is a major holiday for Scientology's many Celebrity Centres, highlighting their achievements and celebrating their existence. The date is specifically the anniversary of the opening of the Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles in 1970, which, in the Church's words, is "dedicated to the rehabilitation of the culture through art".I don't think they've been brainwashed, I think the celebrities are just treated very very well as members and get lots of opportunities and back scratching out of it. It's certainly going to be a completely different experience to the idiot regular followers.

There's a streetcorner storefront Church of Scientology in Chicago, on Lincoln Avenue.. often some rather entertaining moments around there if you watch from across the street.....
For some fun, just walk up to a stranger in front of the church and ask them if they like cats? Tell them you're a "Cat Person"

I remember reading that celebrities become Scientologists because the "church" acts as a bank for them in exchange for their endorsement. They "donate" their millions, tax-exempt, and get to withdraw it later as needed.
(There are plenty of celebrities who went to the cult before they were famous, some were even raised by Scientologist parents.)
