What a coincidence
- haha, niceGnash
- that's a lot of money for a slob hackerrenderedred
- In world politics there's never a coincidence :)NBQ00
- the two were linked by the mainstream press back in February
https://www.ft.com/c…Fax_Benson - Ecuador has been borrowing money for a whileFax_Benson

- It's really not that much money for someone who can potentially out these scumbags finally. They want to make an example of him, clearly.set

She must be so happy now...

- I think that was because Assange hoped he could maybe escape to Russia like Snowden.NBQ00
- It's unfortunate that being in such a desperate situation he was in may have caused WikiLeaks to be more biased towards not publishing certain things.NBQ00
- that's one way to look at it...ernexbcn

France’s government has said it would consider offering Julian Assange political asylum if he were to ask the country for refuge.

- Hmmm yeah but he is already in the custody of UK police...?yuekit
- So if he can break out of jail and swim across the ocean to France, maybe it will work.yuekit
- If France says "Assange has diplomatic immunity" or w/e the equivalent, doesn't he?i_monk
- but Nacron is Trump's bellboyMilan
- If it worked that way, he wouldn't have needed to hide in the embassy for 7 years. Ecuador granted him asylum, but the UK wouldn't let him leave the country.yuekit

“I have been in this embassy without sunlight for six years and essentially isolated from most people for seven months,” Assange told the court, “including electronic communication, the telephone etc, from my young children.”
“It has ... interfered with my ability to work, to make a living, and with my deeply held principles that I have fought for all my life, which is to uphold the right of freedom of expression, the right for people to know, the right of the freedom of the press and the right for everyone to participate in their society and the broader society.”
“Due to my isolation, I have not been able to participate in the debates occurring around me and that has resulted in a climate of libel and fake news that might be expected for someone who has been in the business of exposing very large and very powerful corrupt organisations or organisations that abuse human rights.”

Looking at his sentence ("only" 40 weeks and no extradition to USA) it seems his own paranoia got him 7 years into the embassy for nothing.

Pamela Anderson visits 'innocent man' Julian Assange in prison
- He's the biggest hero in modern times and media have miraculously managed to turn people against him.set
- Look at those air quotes, lol. Fuck me, to be that easily manipulated.set
- yup, air quotes all over ;)renderedred
- doubt the Guardian can get away with not using quote marks, otherwise they'd be saying he's innocent of the thing he's in prison for, which he isn't, legallyFax_Benson
- Sure but he's only being detained for skipping bail so far. The detest I've witnessed every day people manipulated in to having for him is really rather scary.set
- so is completely airbrushing out facts that don't fit the messiah narrative, imo.Fax_Benson
- did he deal with Putin? did he deal with Roger Stone on leaking info? did he engineer the release of certain data that helped throw the US election?exador1
- i used to think this guy was pretty amazing. But at a certain point, i began wondering who he's been working for and with etc...exador1
