I've been slouching for years. My lower back is really starting to kill me. Who else here is a sloucher. Is there a good way to break the habit?

I already have an ergonomic chair...I don't sit in it correctly though.

do some pilates classes.
remain mindful of your posture - correct yourself when you slouch.

- I've read these put too much pressure on your knee ligaments, and been told that by physiotherapists.Hombre_Lobo
- so you fell for it, eh? no person in their right mind would use one of these in an office!

- I used one of these when I had issues with my lower back, even had the employer pay for it. No strain on knees.raf
- rocked one of these for years too, was comfy but i ended up slouching more in it.mantrakid
- It also rubs off the leg hair on your shins from the constant friction of shifting / getting in&out of the chair.mantrakid
- comfiest position in this chair was putting my feet up on the knee part & sitting in it like a little stool haha.mantrakid

Yoga/daily stretches + deadlifts seem to help my posture.
And mg33's image is spot on, do not over compensate by arching your back / sticking your arse out too much.

set up your screen so you look at its center when sitting up straight. ie the apple cinema display needs to be lifted almost 10 inches to make you sit good.

I bought one of these a few years back and I must say, productivity has increased tenfold.

What will cure it?
Well, I am on about 7 months of pain, from bad to horrible, seeing an acupuncturist 1-2 a week (at 100-120 a pop) and physical therapy once a week (another 40 copay). That's about $900 per month.
I could be driving a Porsche for that!
Now, if that doesn't get you to sit up, do your stretches/yoga,etc...
