Is hourly charging the only way that designers can avoid super consuming rounds of revisions?
This article: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/… says "Don’t charge per hour".
Anyone disagree?
When / how do you decide to cap a project and when to go hourly?
or... Should I just shut up, run out and purchase this now http://www.amazon.com/Graphic-Ar… to devour before my next gig, and just trying to move smarter.

I tell my clients "I'll give you an estimate for the total project, it's based on $____ per hour. If we go over the allotted time, I'll let you know and the cost will go up. Don't worry, I almost always get the project done within the estimated hours."
This lets them know that they are paying for the project, rather than the hours, but I've found that it helps them to understand that they shouldn't ask for indefinite revisions.
Maybe this isn't the best way, but it's working for me, for now.

I have no magic answer.... usually estimate includes x rounds of changes that take y hours, if more than that, or if it looks like we have different assumptions, it's time to renegotiate.
.. and, yes, I have to admit that sometimes I'm a terrible estimator.
...and if I "keep that warm fuzzy customer confidence" idea, that they believe you're listening to them, understand them, fewer revisions result....
