You should use them. And for the same reason you always use vectors. They can be resized to anything. Sure you might have a complex situation that requires a lot of brushwork, but even if it's a simple fade mask you can feather a vector mask.
Totally useful.

If you're asking this then you're just incomplete.

My only problem with vector masks, in Illy at least, is not being able to easily set multiple objects (such as outlined, or even normal, text).
That seems like the sort of thing that should've been fixed by now.

And while we're at it, don't be one of those who has Layer 87 copy 23.

Only JUNIORS use vector masks, idiots. Senior designers don't. End of thread.

- I mean, Geith has been a QBN member longer than I've been in the industry. Who are we to question her?monospaced
- Bitter little troll. Maybe I'll give a proper response when I roll off your mum.Geith
- I'M the troll?monospaced
- Yep. You keep attacking me for some reason. Maybe you should log off and get a life.Geith
- why single me out?monospaced

Yeah, *FUCKING* really.
Please explain to me how it's any more FUCKING efficient than manually editing. It's way FUCKING cumbersome.
And I don't give a shit about whether you think I'm FUCKING competent or not. I name layers and I'm way FUCKING talented, so eat me, junior douchewipe.
- To reach Jr. Douchewipe, are you demoted or promoted from Douchewipe?hellobotto
- It's non-destructive, case closed.
You really are cluelessanimatedgif - And you're really a fucking idiot.Geith

I love emotional arguments about vector masks.
What's more cumbersome than using vector masks is when you upscale a layer (even a smart object) that has a raster mask and you have to recreate it. If you had a vector mask you would have no such problem.

- Ha. I'm just having fun. I could really care less because I'm gonna do what I do.Geith

i think it depends on what you're doing... i've found them to be really handy, especially when using smart objects. also, you can select the vector mask, make a path, and copy/paste that into illustrator, where you can then use the pathfinder to make other masks. the advantage of that is that the edge won't interpolate, giving you that weird "trapping" issue on the edges (which you'll get if you command click on a rastor mask and select inverse, for example).

People change their minds. Vector masks are scalable. That is useful... case closed.

I think this is a B*sh disciple.

I really meant layer "SHAPES." Haha. That was fun. Glad everyone had a good time, though. I need to come around more often. I miss this place and all of the juvenile vitriol! No love more real than the love on Q Muthafuckin' B N. I love that you lads are spending your (billable) time wisely – on an internet message board. Keep on haranguing out!
- LAST WORD!monospaced
- You should spend your billable time learning Illustrator...MrT

And I care? No.
