Yes, there are two websites in this thread. Technically, I'm at version 4.0. The very first Metagramme website was built by QBNer fate in early 2006, if I remember correctly. That was strictly a portfolio site. All done in Flash, like the full-screen image/ black & gray version that came next (built by skt).
After living with it for a while, I didn't find the previous version (the scrolling one based on an Emil Olsson template) to be very engaging at all. Certainly not from a client's perspective. I'd even call it bland. It certainly had no use as a marketing tool. It was a fine model for a freelancer's portfolio, but not as a tool for creating conversations with potential clients.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion of course, but we're quite happy with the new look. The design is done, beyond a couple very minor details like hanging punctuation for pull quotes. Not sure how to automate that with our current UX. Besides that t's only still in progress in the sense that we'll add new content monthly. In terms of function, look, and feel, we'll park it here for at least the next 3–4 years.

Wait, are we all talking about the older version with all the scrolling, or the new one with the portfolio stuff in the carousel? seems like there's two websites in this one thread.
Honestly this new format feels a bit bland and samey as a lot of other stuff out there. The work is good, the usability is fine, but the format/finish isn't exciting like that last version was. Feels less like a design studio and more like a tumbler/wordpress.
Just my humble opinion of course, but remembering v1 (beautiful) and v2 (engaging), this falls a bit flat for me. I'd guess that you're not done with it and with some further refinement and details, this friendly approach could really shine.

Your work is amazing and incredibly inspiring. I've always been a big fan. Keep up the good work!

"good luck" is such a great way to be snarky and dismissive.
haha, yeah, good luck with that.
(i was being genuine though).

gramme = hero

Yep. 1.0 was a portfolio site designed to reach creative directors. 2.0 was a blip, a belly-flop in the midst of severe burnout. 3.0 is a marketing tool and a resource designed for clients, and in the midst of a much happier lifestyle. The friendlier look was intentional. And I wanted our sense of humor and personalities to shine through. And it will grow each month with new content, rather than sitting idle.

The tone of your company changed. I remember the black, dark Flash website, it looked like a high-end European fashion magazine with minimal info. This one looks more approachable and open. You have pics of yourselves & bios... a lot more colo, and some casual typefaces.

Hey skt! Been a long time. Good to see you here.
Change of direction – what don't you get? Are you saying you're not sure why we changed, or what we've changed?
- sktIII0
lol @ jesus and hfj.
Site is looking good gramme, not sure I get the complete change of direction though.

2. Stop trying to be a hero. Commit to a schedule you can sustain and tasks you can complete without killing yourself. No one will go into cardiac arrest if you turn down a project.

this i decided for myself as well.
had a nasty time before. i think, personally, design is mostly craft, work, boring and every now and then nice. i think this is a healthy balance.
very unhealthy if EVERY project has to be your best. you'll go burnout for sure!!
- Yep. Also, there isn't really such thing as a design emergency.gramme
- It's a proper coming of age tale that revolves around valuing your time and therefore yourself. It's called maturity :)mikotondria3
- yeah, in brief.. :)
