Controversial Design

"Dutch architecture firm MVRDV said they proposed its “Cloud” design because it challenged the mundane shape of the typical skyscraper. A pair of luxury residential towers in Seoul would be joined in the middle by a cloud-like shape, billowing out like a tutu around two legs."
This project has me wondering when, exactly, does a designer step back and look at his work to find the supposedly "hidden" messages between the lines.
I personally have created works that mean one thing, but are construed (usually negatively) to mean something else.
Thoughts?
Good bye.

It's possible the design panders to the growing anti-american sentiment worldwide.
Then again, maybe it is just a design coincidence.

it's impossible for the designers to claim ignorance to the 9/11 connection, so a better question is just, "why?"
because, in all honesty, their idea of having this mid-level cluster of connecting levels could have been executed in a much more attractive and efficient way. there's no reason to have it look that way, 9/11 connection or not, in my mind.

The building may have even been funded by the Ayatollah for all I know.

I think it looks awesome and it's a great concept. I was checking it out last night. While it could look like 9/11, it also looks like clouds around the center of the building. I feel like this is similar to people folding a 1 dollar bill and showing the towers being blown up.
Give it a rest, it's a cool design. Every time clouds are around a building, some Americans will get upset? Look at the companies other work, it's pretty cool stuff.

They proposed this for the rebuild of New Orleans.

More info on the New Orleans house, which is an interesting concept:

Come on, this isn't controversial. It looks nothing like the twin towers. It's full of apartment blocks, it's white and it's not a financial institution. Some people need to get a grip. Next they'll be saying Osama is building it or something.

If you divide the number of windows by the number of letters in Osama bin Landen's 10th wife the result is 911. They obviously did this on purpose to spoil Christmas!

It really, really bothers me that the architects felt they should have to apologise for this. Bothers me even more that they actually did, needlessly.
