Anyone else look at the job advert they put up today? This is what got my attention:
'Candidates without twitter accounts need not apply.'
Who the fuck do they think they are? As if it wasn't getting increasingly difficult to guard one's privacy, they're now discriminating against those who try, and don't have a Twitter account.
This really gets my back up.

Twitter is a waste of time.
- 23kon0
Is it not more the fact that they are looking for someone with an active and personal interest in new media/social networking etc.
Someone who's passion for that kind of stuff extends to their personal life too and they tweet outside work about design etc related things as much as they do at work.If that's the reason then it doesn't really seem to crazy to me if that's the kind of position they are looking to fill.

^ I think that's BS.
Let's be real about this: they're looking for a pixel-pusher, not a content writer or strategic planner. Not having a Twitter account in no way hinders a designer from doing what they're hired to do, which is designing stuff. If there is really a need to design something involving Twitter, it's not like they can't simply research what needs too be done and take it from there.
No, I reckon they want people with Twitter, so that they can make hiring decisions based on what they read, and that's not right at all.

well then, you probably don't want to work with them eh?
- d_rek0
Hold on, i'm twittering about this right now...
- vaxorcist0
I can imagine the CEO walking around the office, asking some junior designer a question and.... the response is:
"Hold on, i'm twittering right now.."

Solution: Register twitter account, never tweet. Arbitrary requirements met.

It's their company they can hire who they want, what's it to you?
- Cos it's a discriminatory practise, and not right?Continuity
- It's an honest approach that will save many candidates their time. They don't want the "twitter, eww..." people.raf
- jtb260
I think calling it discriminatory is a little extreme. There seeking (maybe misguidedly) to weed out candidates who aren't familiar with social media. Would I want to work for this company based on that bias? Probably not. But if that's what they feel they need/want in a design candidate than who am I to argue with them - I'm not going to work there regardless.

Maybe we're all old fogey Gen-X and Gen-Y people who can't multitask like Gen-Z twitter/facebook/working-at-the... time people....
Maybe we're all social-media immigrants, not people whose first social media account was in grade school.... who are now, like 19 years old....
Kind of like how we used to laugh at all those baby boomers who asked us how to login to an email account a few short years ago....
- Speak for yourself. I do just fine at 41. It's the kids who are distracted and can't multitask well.hellrod
- Jacque0
The young can have multitasking. Nothing like being mediocre at a number of things at once, instead of being great at one thing at a time.

If you're not on twitter you're missing some serious shit. You don't need to be tweeting, but you should be following.
- tredesigns0
tools are stupid the fucks who use them are stupid. so use twitter to yell in the wind and some use it as a news feed and to share ideas and content.
negating someones talent cause they are not into twitter or FB is a shitty thing to do.

Fight fire with fire.
Sign-up for 100 free twitter accounts. Make-up/post the most ridiculous non-sense you can about this endenspeikndngflw3eih-a-gram bullshiite company.
"Hey this is 2002 calling. Please send us your Friendster.com profile in order to be considered for a position with our super hip, cutting edge company".
Too much company Kool-aid being consumed, it seems.
This place sounds boring and entrenched in too many producers and high priced, self-important CD's.
