Laugh Out Loud
I had to do a similar thing not too long ago.
- Fantastic. Did you finally get paid?CyBrainX
- Yep they paid up once they got over the original shock that I could actually take their website downJimbo82
- I didn't put up a message like that though, just took it down. They threatened to sue me for loss of business and...Jimbo82
- ... said that because it was hosted on their server they own it, even though they hadn't paid for it. Dickheads basically.Jimbo82

could have done without the "It's sad really," at the end.
- bored2death0
sorry, but that's not coming across as very professional.
you know... airing dirty laundry and such...
- Depends on how much you want to warn people about not paying.CyBrainX

Steve Whittaker doesn't pay his web designer.

It would be great if you had built gif.tv yourself and just redirected his site to it to make some more ad money. :D

So how'd you come across this little gem, alice?

funny - but unprofessional.
I don't see that helping you to get paid more than once, and then never again.- With any luck, no-one would ever have to do it more than once anyway.Continuity
- If it's at this stage, he's probably happy to lose BSGL as a client.i_monk

YES!! HAHA!
yeah sure, not professional and all that shit BUT is it professional to refuse to pay for work done??? Fuck no! About time...
- It's not professional to NOT get paid.
Almost by definition...mikotondria3

It would be great if you had put in your contract that you can do what you've done. That way if he gets pissed off and threatens murder to you, your family, and/or your pets or even your friends, you can show the cops that he did in fact agree to what you have done.
- dijitaq0
how long did they wait before putting that up??

Changed AGAIN
lol- hahahapillhead
- AND AGAIN ...
oh noes I have to go to meeting :(alicetheblue

Best be very, very careful about how you handle this type of thing. Web designers seem to like the idea that they can "force" something (even when they are clearly in the right).
I've talked with my lawyer about this in depth and been told that you could easily be sued, both for loss of business and possibly worse. That would easily result in you owing them more than they owe you.
Not right, for sure, but people need to be careful.
[if you have this explicitly detailed in your contract, then that's a different deal altogether ]

i think it is slanderous.
should just say that the site is suspended and thats it.- libelous
bulletfactory - It's only libel/slander if it's false.i_monk
- AND you KNEW it to be false at the time, and were ONLY publishing it to damage the reputation of the other party.mikotondria3
