Anyone here a subscriber? My ability to manage all the project work going on is at critical.

i used it for a while - years ago. its pretty good but now i just use google docs for collaborative project management. I'm too cheap to pay.

A place I work with, uses it. Leaves alot to be desired. I wouldn't pay for it if you paid me. Turns jobs into long endlessly tall threads on the interweb. Keeps it all in one place which is nice, but I can imagine a new ui and function improvement every time i log on.
Just started useing Rally with another client. It's like BC on steriods. A lot more too it than I need personally. But I think its pretty great for crazy multi person/team projects. From CD to Coders and everything in-between.

thanks everyone! Rally looks quite promising.

I use it at work. It works.

We use it here, it could be better adapted to a "creative environment" but all in all it's good. Try using it for one project with one client (free) and see if it does the trick for you. I'm going to personally check out Rally, but I am pleased more or less with Basecamp, it's made a big difference around here, (we're a 5 person shop, btw).

I use basecamp at work because no one knows any better.
I use Rule for freelance because its free forever and I like it.

I like Rule... used to use basecamp at various gigs... sometimes it seemed that account people could abuse basecamp, by loading it up with semi-useless tasks to make it look like lots of stuff got done... I suppose any software can allow that though
I prefer Rule.fm...
not just free, but all in one place for me..... less fishing around...
- not free anymore, I wondering when I'll have to pay and since there is no reports, how I can get my projects out of therespot13

I found basecamp to be really powerful for the fact that it allowed you to capture feedback / tasks / milestones / files / etc all in one place versus having to endlessly hunt through emails or file directories. I was actually quite fond of it for the few years that I used it. That being said, i'm not sure what else is out there. Rule looks nice - think i'll give it a whirl!

I dig basecamp a lot. I don't understand the detractors.

we use it, better than everybody sending emails to each other, but could be better

I've tried many different project managers from basecamp to hosted activecollab, from asana to trac. I now use trello.com - simple and efficient
- < have not seen this. i like the ui. doesn't do everything basecamp does, but i think it hits the mark for some people. thanks for sharing.sublocked

I use it w/a few different agencies... works well

Do any of these sit on your own computer or server? I hate relying on other companies or the internet for mission critical information. Sensitive information that I wouldn't want others to have access to is also another reason to dislike web based services.

I've used it with different clients and at different agencies and generally with no issue.
However, like any of these things, unless it's adopted by all and given chance to stick, it will probably end up being a disappointment and an annoyance.

interesting point – faith and buy-in

I fucking hate it.
We have used it at work for like a month. We also tried it a couple of years ago and we just didn't see the point for it in our case. Small place with a shared server and we can just simply turn around to say something instead of wasting minutes adding that to basecamp.
I have also found it to be slow. and I have tried different different internet connections at 50 Mbps.
It's also fucking annoying yo receive all those notification on your email. Fucking fills my inbox with shit I don't need to see. Assume this notificatiosn can be stopped, but haven't bother to check yet.In my opinion it only makes sense if you and other people do not work in the same office or if the office is just way too big with many people.

i used it at a freelance gig i did a couple of years ago. i didn't think to much of it; i used it because i had to. but the management didn't like that much but i never asked why. we ended up building an in-house system.

We just started using Basecamp, and it seems like a Godsend. Very helpful.
