This is a funny topic, you hear people saying things about html5 as a replacement for Flash. All I have ever seen are rudimentary games and video players. The shit isn't ready for prime time yet. I work for a newspaper company we have 30-40 web sites. stats say that less than 4% of users come from iOS. While over 20% come from IE6.
I made an infographic that was judged for an in-house competition in flash and some dick said "flash is so five years ago". Should I start making everything in html5 and alienate 20% of our users to appeal to 4% of users? That is retarded logic.
So many people want to be on the cutting edge of things when the tools are not even there yet.

It's been many months since I removed the Flash plugin from my computer and I don't miss the thing. I might be the wrong audience but all the sites I visit don't require the thing.

Has is been mentioned yet that Microsoft is the only other company not supporting Flash for tablets?

I don't get why everyone here acts like Flash is actually useful. For anything other than games.
Who the fuck visits full Flash sites in this day and age? Yeah make and sell that garbage if it pays the bills but fuck actually visiting that tedious crap. And if you're a Flash developer then who cares just learn whatever the new shit is people are asking for and sell that, if you're so inflexible that you can't make a shift like that then you're in the wrong business and deserve to sink.
If you can't evolve then I guess you can always carry on making Flash restaurant sites and banner adverts.
As for video there is no reason this should be played in a vector animation system. Should be browser native.

I have made an effort to avoid using flash as often as possible, starting in 2002-03 after reading this:

I became excited about using Flash again when it made publishing video easier, no more separate files for quicktime, wmv, real video, etc.
With the advent of mobile browsers becoming so useful I am moving away from using flash as a video codec, and once again fully deprecating it from any strategy I suggest to clients.
Show me how I am wrong with a list of things you would use flash for that could not be done otherwise?

The question is, are these things meaningful or relevant to your site's actual audience?
(not the audience of awards committes, not the clients brother in law who loves the flash intro.... but relevant to actual customers)

interactive graphs can be usefully done in flash....
process-simulation can be usefully done in flash
engineering diagrams that move and interact can be usefully done in flashwe all know a ton of shit that's uselessly done in flash...

I have to admit my list is rather short, not really that long now that I try to think of it all.... and my browser would rather not run a bunch of flash apps at the same time...so I'm too busy to surf the flash jetsam in order find the occasional flash gem.... and I have flashblock on, only sometimes actually clicking to run them.....
