i'm considering buying this from a dude on craigslist for 75 bucks. obviously it's far from great, but has anybody actually used one before? i understand it's not fast at all, but looking at some samples on flickr, it doesn't seem awful if you know what you're doing and have plenty of light.
i'm not a gear fetishist by any means and don't have the deep pockets to be one anyway. i've only shot with a cheap kit lens and 50mm/1.8 so far and i think i get some pretty decent shots out of both of them, so keep that in mind. i'd just like to play with a little longer reach sometimes.

for $75 why not? consider it a disposable lens.
- get a good tripod though.
moniker - that's what i'm thinking. have a decent tripod already. will probably try a beanbag too.johnny_wobble

i have that lens. it's okay. i rarely lug it around to be honest with you...but $75 ain't a bad price.
i say why not if you have the spare cash.

i have that same one. quite frustrating in low light with af, even with a tripod. but other than that, it's great. taken it all over.

I have this exact lens and have had it for many years. I'll be upgrading to an L series lens soon, but I got quite a few good shots with it.
I used it a lot on this set. http://talesfromthehead.com/phot…This is a steal for $75.

If you're happy with your kit lens, you should be happy with this 75-300. It's slightly sharper than the kit.
- wouldn't exactly say happy with it, but i definitely find it useable.johnny_wobble

usable in bright sun for shooting things that don't move....
frustrating indoors unless you use a flash like the 430EX with AF red light and bounce the flash off a wall and shoot at 1200 ISO, sometimes great results are possible this way.
possibly very irritating to shoot outdoor sports except if you pre-focus on a goalpost or pan horizontally and follow a running person....

i'm probably use it mostly for my little girl's soccer and softball games and wildlife. and just playing around with it to see what I can do. so, for the price, i'm sold. thanks everybody.
- shit grammar.
