Good morning
In photoshop if I hand draw some shapes is there a way / button that will make the shapes follow the closest smooth curve? For example, if I hand draw a circle, or a head it's not going to be that smooth a line - is there a tool to make the line smooth?I know there is the 'smooth' tool but that's something else from my understanding?
V rough Image below - the lines around the face are jagged, I want them to be straight / smooth / crisp

convert to path?

hows that done?

Yeh, that's what I'd use: Make the selection you want, convert to path (in the path pallette at the bottom, looks like a circle with 2 point 'handles' on ), this will give you a path that 'roughly' (approximately, ie smoothly) follows the selection.
(For more accurate results, enlarge the image)
Then just delete the old selection, and make a selection from the path, and you're done.

I see, I think. So once the path is set, delete whats inside it and re fill with whatever?

yeh, once you've got yr path, make a selection and fill it, or use the new selection to chop the face layer, depending on how yr layers are set up..
Personally, in an image like that with wanting to get simple curves, just use the pen tool to get yr new outline...

nice one, thanks for the help

Alternatively, do this in Illustrator with the Pencil tool, and adjust your pixel sensitivity - You can port it over to PS if you like for textures but it is a lot more flexible. I believe Convert-To-Path in PS more or less gets your desired result by accident.
It does the trick, but for illustrations, Illustrator may better in the long run.

nope, photoshop is woefully underpowered in areas like this.
Adobe has been sitting on their hands for years

What orrin said.
Illustrator has in built smoothing for hand drawn lines, and you can adjust the strength of the smoothing if I remember rightly.

Illustrator LiveTrace > set your options with preview. That's the best way.

^ yuck. draw that shit with the pen tool then do some smoothing.

Haha...Adobe prefer to sell both products unfortunately
