How the HELL do i achieve this effect ?

I wanting to visualise something like this in photoshop only using a series of dots to form a face.

Was wandering if there are any plugins or tools anyone knows of (ideally for illustrator or photoshop) that can make my life easier without having to spend hours upon hours doing it manually?
*note: i dont know video and dont have the time to install / learn that technology right now.

Trapcode form in after effrcts, I think.
Although I'm sure there are some free processing.org scripts that do the same.
- yeah i think this was made in trapcode but cnt icant use video and no time to start messing with itliveforever

you need to:
go into illustrator
create a dot and save it as a symbol
bring in your face image.
Mosaic tile the image.
run 'size by luminance script'
this will resize each tile to a size related to it's lightness
run 'replace with symbol' script on the tiles (selecting your dot as the symbol) it helps to ditch all symbols except your dot and then select number one when prompted.
this will take a while and delivers a result not dissimilar to that effect but quite different from a dot screen.otherwise TBH it's a 3D job.
