The hex color #1f1f1f in photoshop looks very different than on the web. Anybody know what the heck I'm doing wrong?

I ran into this... I would "save for web" and it would shift my colors, so if the color was #111111 before I saved, it would be closer to #222222 after. I would take the result, sample and confirmed the discrepancy.
It was in my ps color settings.

- yeah interesting... but I still can't get the hex values to match.mosko

* Under View --> Proof Setup I'm using Monitor RGB. Also tried sRGB.
* Under Image --> Mode --> I'm using RGB color (8bits/channel)
* Under Edit --> Color settings I'm using "North America General Purpose 2". RGB is currently set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1
I just need to copy the hex code from the color sampler. Then paste into html. I'm not even exporting an image.
When I look at the CSS color next to the photoshop color, they seriously look very different. Photoshop is much darker and richer.
I'm stumped.

is there a check in front of view > proof colors?
- yes there is.mosko
- weird. I had a similar issue, but resolved it with toggling the proof colors on/off. I'm out, that's all I gotflashbender

More plainly stated: How do I get CSS and Photoshop colors to match (hex values)?
- jadrian_uk0
there is nothing absolute here, deal with it.

Pretty sure CS4 and 5 simplified this massively if you use the save for web function.
It's to do with the colour profile attached to the exported image which some browsers interpret.

I'm not trying to use 'save for web'. I just want to be able to copy the hex colors between photoshop and the web without shifting.
I'm still dumfounded as to why this is so difficult.

I ran into this issue when working with my t-shirt site. The red background colour never matching the Gif on top of it. Here's how I fixed/solved the issue:
- Get your image ready as normal in Photoshop.
- Then do a save for web.
- I was saving a GIF and using the dropper I selected the colour that was giving me issues (I just selected a pixel on the very edge of the image).
- This highlighted the offending colour in the colour swatches to the right.
- Double click the colour swatch and now you can manually enter a hex value for it.
- Save it out and the Gif should be perfect.- You can also fix any other colours that don't quite look right using this technique.Centigrade

Edit > Convert to profile > sRGB
Then sample hex.
That'll do it.

@Centigrade
You really shouldn't have to do that, you are doing something wrong with colour profiles elsewhere which is actually causing this issue.- Yeah I know but.... it worked and I wanted to get going. A band aid solution for sure.Centigrade
