This is all part of the Google realignment, I'm assuming? Weed out some useless services (for their own growth), and then redesign everything to bring it all in line with one another.
Really good shit, Google. Personally, I love it to the max.

I like it. This might be enough to move from Yahoo to Google.
Glad that they've finally realized that design does, indeed, make good business sense.

Would love to learn how they hire designers. Do designers need awesome SAT scores or any of that other stuff that google requires of engineers?
Not much of it is applicable when hiring a designer, you have to measure different things.

Also I wonder what finally convinced Larry and Sergey to STFU about how design would adversely impact page load.

I can't wait for the next set of sweeping changes to take place two months after I get used to this one.

I do very much like it too. Much cleaner and easier to read. And like you said, they're doing a good job at streamlining their services.

Interestingly enough, the new look is not available on Google Apps Premium yet.. I guess it takes a bit longer to go to the premium service.

Here's Andy's post about Google's redesign and Google+ stuff.. I would assume the same team is working on the rest of the stuff
