I a want to get fixed focal length lense for my Nikon d40. I narrowed down selection to two lenses:
DX 35mm (52mm on full frame)
FX 50mm (75mm on DX format)
Any suggestions or recommendations?
Depends on what you shoot... both are pretty nice focal lengths...
Do you currently have the 18-55? if so, zoom to 35, zoom to 50 and see what view you like....
get the 50mm if you like blown out backgrounds and headshots or head-and-shoulders or detail images.
get the 35mm if you want to shoot more "normal view' images but you can still get bokeh backgrounds if you're close, but closer than the 50mm....
I'd go for the 50mm..... and if you don't like it, you can sell it for what you paid....
Agreed, nothing quite like a good 50mm.
Which 50mm? You copied the same link for both.
I have that 35mm and a 50 1.8, and on my DX body, I find myself using the 35mm far more often than the 50.
get the 50 1.8 -- sweet lens for the price
If I had to choose one or the other, or if I could only have a single lens, I'd take the 35mm.
35 1.8 hands down.
Although if you wanted to do more portrait type things, maybe the 75, but it is for portraits, id go longer.
It is more for objects and playing with photography rather than portraits. I am interested in the exposure/bokeh effects.
What I can see that opinions are divided about 50mm and 35mm. I am an amateur and not going to do serious photography at all.
Interesting thing is, that both lenses (50mm f/1.8 G and 35 f/1.8G) have almost the same price tag, around EUR210.
buy one, shoot a ton, if you don't like it, exchange it....
