    in lure of the Zenga micro-payment model;
steam wants you to buy the weapons, hats and whatever other shit they can lure you to spend. they call it "Mann-conomy". which allows players to visit the Mann Co. Store and buy items using cash they've loaded into their Steam Wallet. like i mentioned, purchased items confer bonuses. the game is rigged

we used to be able to buy software; now its all subscriptions and micro-payments. in the end shit is getting more expensive. i say fuck'em, don't encourage the practice.

    • that being said...if you're playing. add me up. Steam Profile: plashal

they're pretty creative on the contraptions and class armaments..

The big issue will be that if you dont pay for the upgrades, The stock build wont have a chance. you'll have to get the double armor, have to get the extended clips (etc) just to survive the rounds. which without you're a siting duck.

this is another nail in the coffin for the hope of avoiding micropayments elsewhere. It's like when your parents got a facebook account; after which you knew this facebook shit was going to be here for a while.

    • these were released 2 years ago, no? also what about the heavy 's bear claws one...kingsteven
  • registe0

ea bought playfish so they could have a division actually making money. micropayments are a great idea. pay only for what you want

i can't believe the audacity of them, to demand payments to play a game and entertain yourself on a platform programmed by a corporation.

    say it ain't so...

    • considering i already paid them 50 bucks for the game.. yeahplash
    • i didn't pay for it, you did, you paid to be an early adopter. that was your choice.registe
    • lol. you're funny.plash
    • it's the price difference between iphone1 & 2, or canon mark I or II, sucks if you paid before the newregiste
    • that's consumerism, you don't and didn't need that gameregiste
    • yeah no shit. its trend that is catching on. we'll see how far it goes.plash
  • plash0

I dont think this is an issue of being an early adopter..
maybe you're new tf2 but you'll see they have a team fortress beta which is for exactly that; early adopters.

i paid 50 and i got 5 games which was a great deal for the 360. (but you didnt mention the orange box) (in fact, i also paid another 30 for the PC version of TM2) so this has been the better of the deals.

my is about purchasing content. game developers are withholding content just for the dlc. and in some cases (modern warfare 2; dlc) they are reselling old content.

now if you dont have a problem with it; then this may not be the conversation for you. i do have a problem with this direction. i have a problem paying 60 bucks for a game, then another 45 in "extra" content that is literally a port of the original game.

yes its all our own decisions and at some point you are correct. i will stop buying this shit.

  • registe0

I guess I don't have a problem with it because I understand the concept of pay to play. I'm old enough to know I'm wasting my time if I'm just going to hang out complaining about something I have no control over.

I personally like the idea of micropayments like I said, do what you want with it.

Maybe consider this type of gaming like a race circuit. if this is going to be such a competitive sport, why wouldn't there be a profit structure put in place for those more willing to invest in the opportunity to win?

not all games are made like this. it seems to me that you're singling Team Fortress out for blurring the line between the big 3 consoles and facebook games only because it came at an expense to you.

there are people that spend thousands of dollars a year on Mafia Wars... to click a button. no one is forced into playing these games.

only you can control your position in relation to the game.

I see it like this... oh cool, free... explore, explore, this is fun. if others who want to spend money on the game, make the game no longer enjoyable to me, i will not attempt to invest in the game, making my play more enjoyable. I will only stop playing the game as I am not enjoying it.

options. if you're buying video games, you have plenty.

    • "your old enough to know I'm wasting my time if I'm just going to hang out complaining about something I have no control over."plash
    • what are you implying...plash
  • plash0

im not really sure what you're arguing for. but no one is blurring the lines, its blatant. for steam in regards to Team Fortress 2; micro payments is the new model. no singling out. its a team fortress relevant observation..

you seem to take the position that all content should have this micro model (or even that i cant have issue with it). and thus that is where we will disagree. i dont want to rent software, i pay to own. the same as i dont want to rent my home or car. now this has nothing to do with the expense but more the nickle and dime approach. The same way i have problem with paying 800 bucks on a airplane ticket and then nickle and dime-ing for luggage. Just charge me the 40 bucks on the ticket.

As for choice. i don't think i ever mention i was being forced to play this game or any game for that matter. i may feel a little obligated to finish the story-lines. as yourself im an old gamer too, i come to enjoy the pastime of gaming and expect a complete product. DLC should stand on its own; not finish the original story line. the later seems to be the trend.

i also may just see past the guise of "free". and as for Mafia Wars; i would love to see the demographics. i would suspect they target a "type" of person. someone who also may need to finish all the game accomplishments and gets distracted by shiny lights.

    • there's no argument. you just don't understand that i don't agree with you, i've only stated my opinionsregiste
    • i understand and to each their own.plash
    • I agree with plashunparmas
  • registe0

don't forget, the game wasn't made so you could get a sense of self entitlement or pride from beating it on the hardest level, it was made for profit. now they are making more profit. good for them.

    • this is obviously not about team forrtess; in which you're going to have to get over whatever is the problem.plash

FUUUUUUUUU!!!!! i just bought it a week ago!!!

  • detritus0

I haven't played in 6 months, likely won't for another.. but I did pay for the damn thing originally.. does that mean that all my ‘earned’ upgrades will be offed, and I'll have to pay to get any items that I didn't originally ‘earn’.. or can I still get upgrades within the structure of the game, without having to pay extra?

I don't know why I'm asking.. I've a terrible feeling my game-playing days are behind me.

    *reaches for noose, stool*

    • a bit dramatic wouldn't you say? though being detritus, i understand the toneregiste

i remember purchasing the xbox 360 soley for this title and crackdown.. tf2 is a fav for me.. endless fun.. but once my xbox got the 4 ring of death i never went to get the game ever again.. but i thank you today for bringing it back to me.. FREE!!!

    w00t!!

also all this talk about making the game better with payments here and there is worth my experience.. if it helps or adds content for a few bucks im all for it.. micro payments.. for added content for something i like is like getting a sunroof in your car.. its not needed but it makes the experience that much better..

    w00t!

  • canuck0

Fun game haven't played in months though. Think I paid $10 for it at the time.

So it sounds like guy with the most disposable money to buy weapons, armour other crap will be the top dog that how it works now?

  • plash0

well, this registe dude seems to have more of a problem with me than the game or policies of said game. i believe i kept it civil, on topic and without name calling which registe failed to do. to that my only response is, take a number ..

now he may be mad that ZISSOU got booted or that my healthy sense of entitlement is due to my dashing good looks and sporadic grammar typos.. idk. i dont care.

    • Don't fret it, Version3 has a long history of needing to be right, at whatever cost, on whatever lowly subject.detritus
    • I'm sure you'll appreciate being informed that Valve is a commercial entity though— I'm sure you were totally unawaredetritus
    • obviously you care, it's a discussion board, we had a discussion. get over yourselfregiste

  • ThePublics0

How dare they charge you money to play the game they spend their time working on.

    • 'you've missed the point. has noting to do with one ability to charge for goods and services.plash
    • ThePublics seems to agree with me and you make it another "argument"?registe
    • welcome to QBNplash
  • Noggin0

You dont have to buy any of the stuff at all, the weapon/goods drops are quite frequent and you can craft most of what you want.

In the meantime have fun the stock items, its not like they suck.

  • lifeindev0

You pay full price for a game, and then 2 months later they want to take another big wet juicy bite out of my ass for another 5 maps, which are just old remakes. fuck that.

I don't mind micro-payments, or paying for something when there is value to it. DLC always just costs too damn much for too little.

Have you looked at the prices in the Mann-co store? The uber update bundle is 54% off. What a steal! At that price it'll only cost you $99.99 to get all the latest weapons. Fuuuuuuck that.

  • ernexbcn0

LOL I bought the Orange Box a couple of months ago and haven't been able to play this game for the first time, I need some holidays.

    • it is the only thing worth playing in the Orange box.. you arent missing with the rest, just TF2.e-pill
