Try to get a month to month at first so you can check out all the different areas first hand and get better informed. Don't even think about trying to blow red lights or ignore parking meters. The city makes most of their income that way and they'll suck your account dry.
In a nutshell: Venice/Santa Monica/coast...great air, good vibes, a little bit mellow. Los Feliz/Silver Lake/Echo Park/Downtown...shitty air, a lot more action. But there are plenty of other worth while places in between and further out.
- So the parking enforcement is a bit like Texas, rape and pillage?IAmMintCondition

^^^^The moto license isnt too tough. But I would suggest taking the motorcycle safety foundation class. http://www.msf-usa.org/index_new…
Not only does it exempt you from taking the riding exam at the dmv, it also saves you 20% on insurance. If I recall, it was 4 classes. 2 in the classroom, 2 on the range (they provide the bikes). Plus, they really do teach you a lot, even if you've been riding awhile.
The DMV written test is a bit harder and longer than the standard driving test. They'll ask you multiple choice ?'s where all 4 answers seem correct, but the point is to trip you up. What might be correct or most safe in a car, is different on a bike.
All in all, take the class $250ish, apply for M1 and take test at DMV $50ish. and you can get it w/in a few weeks.- great info, thank threadpost.akrok

Bring gasoline drum filled with water, shotgun, samurai sword and convert your car to bio-diesel. Leather suit and german shepard optional (but a must if you want to be a top tier wasteland survivor)
