2:46PM Surely some old school MP3.com users are pondering that one a little bit.
2:46PM "This is the first time we've seen this in the music industry -- no charge for multiple downloads to different devices."

The unexpected bit is that both original iPad and iPhone 3Gs are supported—we're yet to see to what extent.

So the iCloud music matching service... clear this up for me... it doesn't make you re-buy all your files, just matches them with music in the iTunes system for the yearly fee?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you could use iPod Ripper or something similar to scrub all the non-essential data from your music files, leaving only name, album, track name, etc. before you try to sync to iCloud.
- or just stream from home machine or console and sidestep storage amounts and copywritedeathboy

I dunno this whole Cloud solution isn't doing it for me.
In the uncompetitive internet world of Canada, where massaging the flow (rub and tug the 'net?) is common place and the cost per byte transferred is amongst the most expensive in the world, having Apple push content to me will turn out to be too expensive. In the less data intensive world (like where I'm probably working for the next couple of years, Viet Nam specifically) the likelihood of this working efficiently is pretty slim.
Sure... Apple is no charity - I get that: I don't begrudge them the right to make piles of cash; we're adults so hopefully we can make some informed decisions.
However, one company "owning" my content worries me, despite the convenience. Good luck to everyone (and despite the reality that I own an iPod and use iTunes to manage it) but I'll take a pass thanks.
- Vietnam fun facts: facebook.com is blocked but iPhone app works.raf
- twitter.com is blocked too. It is however the country with most free wifi on the street I've been to.raf
- Was there in Feb '10 and noticed the same thing - works for me. =)adumbratesly
