does anyone here have an ipad 2? What do you use it for? Thinking about it but not pressed the trigger yet!

I do.
Main purpose is to develop/test things.
Besides that is great to play Angry Birds on the bathroom, and read Flipside, Wired and magazines.Btw, shameless self-promotion but.... I've just released a magazine for the iPad. It's designer's oriented, and features an interview with Netdiver.

Watch porn, read comics and play games...
What else is there to do?

It's useless but it might just give your image that extra boost. If you need that sort of boost.

I've got an iPhone and a MacBook so it's a real struggle justifying it to myself... but I still want one. I even thought it would be good on the train to watch films, but I never catch the train. Still would be useful though...

- Not really. It's a cool gadget. I just can't think of a decent use for it.Raniator

i find it difficult to talk on when walking about. holding the ipad to your face while on a call looks a bit silly.
- Thank goodness it isn't a phone.monospaced
- it's a mobile device, connects to the internet... phones are so 90s********

my parents have one.. its definitely lighter than the ipad 1 (which i have) and the front facing camera is cool for skype, but yep, i am not rushing out to replace the one i have ..
but yep, if i was about to buy one for the first time, no question i would get the 2..

they are pretty useful, granted it is a luxury item that you can get by without, but it is definitely nicer to take around to meetings than lugging a whole laptop just to make some notes or quickly check the web..
also its fun for game etc..
- Spot on autoflavour...ideaist
- Is it really that easier to lug around than a laptop?CyBrainX
- Use an iPad to take notes in a meeting? Not sure about that. Typing on it is a bitch, esp hard to jot down notes withdesmo
- yes Cy, much easiermonospaced

I find it to be the single most relaxing piece of technology ever created, but truly a pure luxury item...

my business partner ditched his computer for one a few months ago and hasn't looked back. he doesnt design, but does all his writing on it as well as all our finance etc. and, as he concentrates mostly on sales and clients seem to dig it - paid for itself in the first few days.
- surely not an efficient way of working - touchscreen keyboard!fadein11
- he has the wireless keyboardbjladams
- ah makes sense nowfadein11
- ...which renders it bulkier than the Air 11"raf
- not for taking on sales... he enjoys working on it- you'll have to take it up with him if you'd like him to change...bjladams

I love mine, mostly for reading various magazines and looking for inspiration (graphics and architecture).
It kinda feels like the web did at 2000 - you just mess around looking for oooo's and aaaaa's. But the interactivity does seem to be largely practical, which is like reading a magazine that has a slideshow for each image.
I am also using it for our presentations. So fast! The last presentation I made with my laptop it, literally, took 1/3 of the meeting to start it up, 1/3 to present and 1/3 to shut down! That was kinda what pushed me over the edge...
Overall, I am impressed

angry birds, propellerheads rebirth, tv guide, xbmc remote, social media, productivity tools..
- mobile rebirth. This is the glittering future we all dreamed of :) God bless Marcus Zetterquist.mikotondria3

I think of it more like an appliance than a computer. It's always sitting on a couch cushion for when you want to quickly look something up, it follows me to the bathroom so I can catch up on news while...and I love being able to read from it in bed. These things could be done with a laptop, but the iPad makes it much, much easier.

I've always found doing anything other than having a shit on the toilet is totally weird.

I have a MBP, and iphone, so I'm trying hard to justify it too. This is a REALLY shit reason, but I love drawing on the phone and I guess drawing on the ipad will be as good / better, some of the drawings get used further down the line. I was thinking of selling my MBP and getting an iMac and iPad instead but I need to be sure I won't miss carrying adobe with me etc.

the order of operations for my ipad2 during the day starting after i wake up:
6am: check news, weather, words with friends
8am: check calendar for the day
9am: basecamp shit
10am-3pm: testing websites and experimenting with apps we're working on
3pm-5pm: words with friends off and on. check stocks. some surfing
6:30pm: at home checking directv schedule. using ipad2 as remote. adjusting music volume and selection playing through house. words with friends. respond to 4 alarm fire emails.
7pm: children's toy. my son has a whole screen of learning apps we use together. at 20 months he can count to 10 and knows all his letters, colors and shapes. it becomes a $500 kids toy.
9pm: check last bit of news for the day. read a few comics.mostly it's an off and on tool i use throughout the day, i'm never on it for more than 10-20 minutes at a time, other than at night when our son decides to play with it.
