Going to be in LA for a couple of days next week. Totally want to check out In N' Out Burger, but aside from that, what should we do? I'm staying at the Standard in W. Hollywood...

mmm in n out... might have to have that for dinner
- ifeltdave0
see you there, deathboy! I've got the taste for it now, too...
I'd check out Griffith Park, for sure. Been a while since I've lived in Hollywood, so can't speak much for the nightlight in that area.
Amoeba is a great music store, occasionally have free shows. Greek Theater is a nice place, if a band you like is playing there.
Get to the westside and go to Malibu for a beach day, and Abbot Kinney in Venice has some hip bars and art galleries, etc.
7 Grand downtown, if you're into whiskey.

mmm i just picked up in and out in venice for dinner.
I'm not sure if you're going to be there with someone but the little door is my favorite restaurant in fairfax village and it's so friggin good (french cuisine). + Excellent wine selection. All my good suggestions are way out of the way on the west side (santa monica/venice/malibu). You can scroll down to my post here: http://www.qbn.com/topics/644898…

hey, why don't we make it a qbn l.a. drinks? what day fits best?

I'm actually DJing the pool at The Standard this Saturday 11am-2pm. Straight up End of The World brunch set. But it sounds like you're in town after that. There's tons of things to check outside the hotel. For starters...hit Bar Marmont across the street (next to Chateau Marmont). Once you've done the walking distance action, try to make it out to other spots in the outer periphery...Venice, Echo Park, etc. if you haven't already.
It's a little tricky to get specific without knowing what you're interested in...scenery, art, drinks, food, graf yards?
- Ahh bummer, yeah, we'll be there Sunday, might check out Bar Marmont, just for the potential people watching.

Definitely just looking for some great food / drink spots, I wish we could take in some more of the culture, but we'll only be there for a couple of days, one being mostly taken up by a meeting... Keep them coming though, all these suggestions are great.

Not sure if you know The Standard has a restaurant which also serves poolside. Then there's Purple Lounge, a nightclub on the far side of the restaurant which may or may not be your scene (depending on what music you're into and which DJs are playing on any given night). Aside from heavy doses of nu-disco and soul, they've actually asked me to DJ a no-wave/rock night there not long ago. So it really depends.
Wednesdays is live (mostly chill acoustic) music in The Cactus Lounge next to the pool which is booked/curated by KCRW DJ Valida. It's called Desert Nights. Mondays Valida DJs/co-produces School Night at Bardot/The Avalon on Vine. They're pretty on-point with solid bands & DJs. But don't sleep on Panda Mondays at Dragonfly either.

I'd head up West Hollywood for some QBN drinks next week if we can assemble. I'll leave it to akrok to organize it :)

Some nice hikes up in the hills nearby, but watch out for ticks.

I'm curious about LA traffic. I hear it's pretty bad, but is it like that in most of LA or is there a downtown area that's usually jammed up?

Use UberX from your hotel. Parking sucks. I just use my bike and uber and park my car till street sweeping every week.
Bring some sneaks for Runyon Canyon. Great workout and lots of yoga pants.
Plan check on Fairfax and Beverly is rad. Rosewood Tavern has a great beer flight option to enjoy a variety. Venice and Abbot Kinney are good for strolling. The venice canals too.
You can rent some bikes at the venice pier (End of Washington) and ride from there to manhattan beach and redondo beach. It's 20 miles round trip to manhattan by bike, but it's flat and along the beach. Plus you can drink BEER in Manhattan and watch some football. Rent a bike lock.

funny when I was in LA I never had any traffic jams whatsoever. Luck I guess.
