I fail by not caring.

We had a voting system referendum, and most people voted NO to the Alternative vote.
Yes: http://www.yestofairervotes.org/…
The NO2AV campaign had more spread than the competition, and used deceptive phrases like 'keep one person, one vote' (there's no difference - if anything AV means you are more likely to have a useful vote), lying about how much AV would cost (£250mil - figure made up by David Blunkett), and make incorrect statements about what AV would mean.
We've bitched about change in the system, had the choice - and pissed it away because there are more stupid people in this country than rational.

Move along...
- hard to blame the stupid people this time - like you say, the campaign was a farceFax_Benson

Yup. Horrifyingly stupid.
*shrugs*
Democratic politics are a sham.
Benign Totalitarianism, Now!

What more Horrifyingly is people thinking Yes or No will change anything. What need changing is the political system, and not just the voting system.

Mojo, your rant didn't work, you forgot to add an open tag.
- geek joke but i liked itliveforever
- no dude he opened it about 5 years ago. Now, hopefully, he's doneProjectile

I wish we'd had a real choice of alternative systems, a proper referendum, not just an either/or choice.
There are so many voting systems. I feel cheated that AV was the only option that Cameron allowed us. If you're gonna overhaul the voting system, then I want to know all the options, and debate the merits of each.
In the end it just turned into YES vs NO ie Clegg vs Cameron, what a waste of time. and yes, I did vote yesterday- This exactly. It's psuedo choice. We were presented with one option with one outcome.kalkal

i voted as well, against
i have no real love for FPTP or politicians in general, and it occured to me on the way to the polling station that AV was just some shitty compromise bone cobbled up by the politicos to cement the coalition. As such is had to be rejected. If we're going to change the voting system, as baskerville says, let's do it properly in an informed thoughtful way.
yeah right....
- that's a bit like saying if I can't go out with a European bra model, I'm shunning all women as a point of principle
Fax_Benson - no it's not. more like going out with a woman for years, then being offered an affair with her twin, different but the sameBaskerviIle

Um, they haven't started counting the votes yet...

It would be refreshing to have a genuine debate on the various methods of voting reform, but in reality it's far too big a subject, and too many self-interested politicians have a reason not to make it happen. AV was a compromise, but at least it's a start.
- maybe not refreshing. probably quite dull actually.Fax_Benson

I think the way the politicians managed the campaign to 'scare' people off the change is idiotic... but again, idiotic in Britain has been proven effective and successful.
And as said before, if having more options means including TKIP or BNP I think we are fine as bad as things are.
--- Also I can observe how 'something new' as Mr. Clegg ate his own electoral promises (students' fees x3 PLUS cuts) earning more hatred than Gordon Brown himself.

Just come to America, we have a real democracy, and your vote will actually count to getting honest, hard-working politicians in office to represent you and your fellow countrymen.
Bwahahahahaah sorry, I couldn't do that with a straight face

I voted yes and I'm disapointed with how it's turning out. I recieved no end of "vote no" propaganda but nothing saying yes. Anyway, I like to keep informed myself. It's a shame about others.
To be honest, I wish we had the chance to do a vote for proportional representation rather than AV.
Still, considering how the AV referendum is turning out, I'm sure the propaganda would stop that being approved too.
- Same here. Either badly organised or badly sponsored. But then the tories supporters have the moneyalnove
