Overflow of Japan donation efforts?

Not trying to hate here (in fact the I think the graphic above is amazing and might get one of these for myself), but to point out the elephant in the room.
Everyday that goes by there's a new artist making a shirt, donating proceeds to Japan, 1000s of artists all around the globe, like you have never seen it before.
Real selfless altruism, or a way to exploit an unfortunate situation to get your name out?

wacist... get me one also

I see what you mean. Japan is cool and hip vs. Haiti (scary and poor) I don't feel like being critical right now though.

a lot of $ spent on art goes to shit, atleast this is for a cause. my 2 cents

On one hand, yes.. is an extra effort to bring attention (to one of the most followed natural disasters in the past 10 years), but you can't help but to point out that there are huge benefits to the artist that might not have anything to do with money, specially when cross promoting these efforts by attaching a signature, name or logo.

really Logi? go fuck myself?
for trying to engage a debate on a social issue of interest to the design community?

the curious thing is how all these designers jumped up for Japan but were mum when it came to Haiti/Katrina. Marketability of one's altruism I suppose.
- oh? so you are on the beat of the free artists donations regarding all disasters? credentials please?logi
- make sure you note your thoughts are merely opinions, misguided and uninformed at that.logi
- exactly my point.Miguex
- why so defensive?ThePublics
- You'd have to be a dunce not to recognize the difference in response between haiti and japanThePublics

Bin Laden is dead, people. other issues are nullified until further notice.

Logi:
I like that you disagree, please feel free to join and make your point without being disrespectful, we are all on the same team here.No need for insults.

It has become a trend no doubt. Like those 'retro' poster remakes.
But honestly I'd much rather see talent & brain power go to t-shirts, posters and 'personal projects' - be it for charity or not - rather than the soul less void of advertising.

It's grey... I do think if a skilled designer was to take the time put into creating and promoting of "benefit pieces" and instead focused on pro-bono work for a non profit organization focused on relief for Japan the hours put would have a much higher dollar per hour impact.
That said, I definately don't object to it and do believe their heart is in the right place.

Here's a notable case:
How you can #SupportJapan – http://binged.it/fEh7iT. For every retweet, @bing will give $1 to Japan quake victims, up to $100K.
Twitter users reacted loudly and swiftly to Bing’s original tweet, using all kinds of four-letter words that aren’t suitable for re-printing here and accusing Bing of turning the tragedy in Japan into a marketing opportunity.More info:

I've also wondered if the Japanese Flag wasn't such a great visual starting place would there be only a fraction of these?
- yes, this is the crux of the pointrandommail
- I did a few designs (not tees) here in Japan, for Japanese companies (and for free). They turned down the ideas where the flag was used. They don't want to see their flag in trouble, overly batshit crazy patriotic as they are. So likely, any design with the Japanese flag you see that comes with a motif of trouble or distress is likely made and sold outside Japan.Peter

troll? by defending a endless list of artists none of you know but choose to judge personally?
if someone is so moved to make a piece, why must and more importantly who are you to judge their intentions?
your sitting at the sideline judging the actions of others while doing nothing yourself.
fine, you text redcross to 90909, good on you. how exactly does your questioning the motives of strangers help the japanese more than said poster?
hating, it's all these threads are.
so yeah, go fuck yourself.
- I believe the only personal judgement here was made by you. No particular designer's name was ever pronouncedMiguex
- all it takes is go to a clothing store to see 100s of "save japan shirts" my observation was just that, the hate element was provided by you onlyMiguex
- was provided by you only, even after repeated attempts to peacefully invite you to debateMiguex
- akrok0
if you do text and send 10 bucks to the redcross. how much will go the actual cause, and not admin fees.
apparently the redcross have a super fancy HQ office in zurich. is that really needed? cause, i am sure donations is paying for it.

i guess i'd also like to add and direct a "lol" towards the defining my text as an outburst due to the use of an age old term used without regard for many years on nt. i like that you can read the arrangement of pixels "go fuck yourself" then imagine me somehow typing these words with steam boiling out my ears banging angrily with fists on my keyboard while in reality i'm responding to emails, listening to dubstep & watching the history channel.
the peculiar part of the experience becomes once the illustration of your hypothetical outburst that i've thrown is presented, some instantly treat it as fact using it as a reason or method of discredidation however then proceed into the politics thread and complain about just such similar tactics by several a government likely including your own (regardless of nationality). the best part though is there is no particular crew or sect here, they form organically if not instantly in each thread as opinions polarize though everyone likes picking on a black sheep. several of them exist here and can be relevant or not depending on topic. strangely other people begin to build expectations upon those personas not unlike celebrity.

Miguex, your simple use of just one word but more importantly two from a short statement proves that you do have a personal opinion and you are taking a side
the word: crux
the supporting word: point
the statement: "yes, this is the crux of the point" from http://www.qbn.com/topics/654962…crux: "puzzling or difficult problem"
you, miguex, have assigned a personal stance on strangers actions and are now puzzled. you are puzzled due to a personal conflict. this you have stated.
my opinions are a reaction to your stance. you seem very pro-no-poster, i seem very pro-choice. i am taking issue with your personal stance because i feel you are wasting your time and that of others on senseless hate toward the actions of strangers that in no way can have a negative affect on anything, and can only benefit those in need.
there is no use in a thread that calls into doubt the aid offered by others when it is making the voice louder for a worldwide cause.
- yeaah... hmmm.. you want to re-read that link you posted?
Miguex - cause I've never said anything like that, and the proof is on your link. :)
or maybe you were directing your eloquent hateful observation to someone else?Miguex - your observation to someone else and you hatred clouded you judgement while writing it?Miguex
