I read it's the cellular antenna data, something the phone company already have of all of us, iPhone or not. And the data is in your computer according to the authors of the app, so what's the big deal?
Would be outrageous if Apple was actually using it or selling it.
- it would be outrageous because it was Apple, cause I'm pretty sure everybody else has something similar...ESKEMA
- it's a big deal silly little fanboy is because you are not asked whether or not they can track you.. And no.. cell towers don't keep on file everywhere you went.Boz
- keep on file everywhere you went.Boz
- A judge can order your phone company to provide tower data to track you down, imbecileernexbcn
- Imbecile is to Boz, since he loves calling people fanboy.ernexbcn

Ok, so my question is...
Who here is bent up enough over this to switch their iPhone off?
- arne0
it seems to be related to apple's mobile ads.
opt-out here http://oo.apple.com and it won't track anymore.

Hopefully, this is old news to you, if not, I encourage you to check out the processed mobile logs of a German Green MP who recently sued for all his details from his mobile company.

(Neat interactive widget too, from a geek perspective if nothing else).
To those of you in the "If I've nothing to hide.." camp - wake up! Where in The Great Book Of Man is it writ that anyone or any entity has any hint of right of omniscience over us?
It's got sod all to do with righteousness, merely simple philosophy.
You're a monkey, not an ant.
- .. fuckit, even ants can go off an do their own thing, unseen. I know — i saw it in a movie.detritus
- Or was that a bee?detritus
- if you're foolish enough to believe in god, you deserve whatever other wool can be pulled over your eyeslogi
- That sounds like an argument for a wholly different thread.detritus

Some more info on what is happening. It seems it's more about keeping track of the cell towers you connect to, rather than where you are:

- Apple PR machinery is in motion!!! They didn't say a word .. but the hordes are working for them now..Boz
- At the end of it.. it will turn out this was all done for the good of consumers!Boz
- How is fanboi-ish or apple pr? It's a link to someone who actually looked in to it.Nathan_Adams

Boz - where did Gruber say anything like that? Looks like you're making up shit.
http://daringfireball.net/linked…- He says good work, nothing to sensationalize. REALLY?!... that piece of shit.. I hate his useless Apple balls sucking guts.Boz
- guts. Google accidentaly scans unprotected wifi signals and it's the end of world and this is not a big deal..Boz
- What a spineless asshole.Boz
- He says good work to the guys who expose it, and that's apparently sucking Apple's balls?Nathan_Adams
- Google's wifi scanning is much more concerning to me than this.Nathan_Adams
- RIGHT!.. Google was catching the opened Wifi signals anyone can do going through a community dumbass..Boz
- Gruber didn't say good job.. he said they didn't "sensationalize" it as it is not a big deal.. IT IS A FUCKING BIG DEAL.Boz
- No, good job for reporting the *facts*, and not assuming things. Learn some reading comprehension.Nathan_Adams
- Boz0
LOL at that piece of shit DarringFireball John Gruber..
He thinks it's awesome app and how everything is awesome and doesn't find anything wrong with this but goes on a shit crusade after Google for picking up unencrypted wifi signals while mapping streets.
God I hate that spineless, Jobs balls gargling piece of crap.
- LOL @ Jobs balls garglingBusterBoy
- True story.. Steve Jobs has blow-job sessions at his office every friday, it's called Gruber Fridays.Boz
- Boz needs to leave the basement, 80% of Boz QBN posts are mental anti-apple crapanimatedgif
- hahahapillhead
- so true Boz, hate that fucker... i'd kick him in the face if I saw him on the streetMilan

@Nathan_Adams How do you know this isn't being sent to Apple?
I have nothing to hide, but seriously, why is this needed? If it's not needed, then don't fucking do it...or at least give me the option to opt out.
- The guys who discovered this say there's no evidence of it being transmitted. http://petewarden.gi…Nathan_Adams
- there is no proof but it may very well be that the file is being transmitted to Apple when you sync the device. You just don't know and knowing Apple, it most definitely is being transmitted.Boz
- know and knowing Apple, it most definitely is being transmitted.Boz
- Making shit up again. Provide proof or STFU.Nathan_Adams

I'm pretty easy to find anyway, I'm usually at work or at home. Failing that try the pub.
- Nathan_Adams0
It's not actually GPS (It's cell phone triangulation, which isn't as accurate), and it's not sending any of that data to Apple - so it's not quite the issue some of the news outlets are sensationalising it to be - but it's still not good.
I can understand why it might keep a track (to speed up location services), but that stuff should be well encrypted.
- Who said it's not sending data back to Apple. If you believe that you're living in a dream world .pillhead

If you haven't got anything to hide, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about
- I agreebohack
- thats what they all say. the evil gov. but it all come down to i don't want to expose my privacy even tho i have nothing to hide.pango
- plus my life would be the most boring reality show. you don't wanna watch that.pango
- I truly hope you first two here are being sardonic.detritus
- what you have to worry about is the degredation of our privacy standards as a people, not whether you're gonna get busted personallyscarabin
- personallyscarabin
- blah blah blah..nothing to hide... Do you leave the front door to your home unlocked?ayport

Can I use this data to find pretty girls and watch them take off their clothes?
