Get a piece of 1" thick plywood board. £8
(it's much better to work on wood - these white, plastic coated desks just make your arms sweat and stick to them in the summer heat).Get a tin of matt varnish. £7 ish
Get a tin of white gloss. £7 ish.
Get some 28" hair-pin leg, If you need a lot of desks get them made at a metal fabrication company. If for 1 or 2 desks, get them of USA ebay. Should be around £20 for a set of 4. + postage and custom/vat duty. For example:
http://cgi.ebay.com/4-VTG-MID-CE…Then sand wood top + sides, varnish. Paint edges white. Screw legs on.
You'll then have an awesome desk to be proud of that is relatively cheap. it's also easy to unscrew the legs and store.
- If u are putting an Imac or macpro on the desk, reinforce the plywood with a 2x4 beam.orpkoobcam2
- forget the 1" board - just get a doorhans_glib

I've been umming and arring about this, just need a weekend when I can get the bits together and buy a saw from a pawn shop. All in all about $60.- you could have the wood cut at the hardware store usually, just have measurements readymonospaced

did the plywood desk at one point. because it was 4' deep had to cut a strip off one side. cut that 8' strip into smaller strips and bolt or screw it to the underneath of th front and sides. the desktop will appear to be a 3' thick slab of solid wood...

- Writing desk, not an office desk or worktop.cannonball1978

usually anything with a metal sturdy frame and wood seems to be great in stability and design..
