It is not bad but I think the black background hurts the eyes. The navigation is a little hard too.

They're still my favorite web design shop/agency/firm/whatever.

I can hear "we are so good it doesn't matter if anyone enjoys using our site"

UP!

Wow. Most people hate it, but why? Giving their background and visual style, the new website is well designed.

What do people expect from Hi-Res, it's totally their style to do this type of execution.

Yeah all the outrage over the (intentionally) bad typography is a bit weird. It's like there's only one way of doing things these days.
Put aside your personal opinion of the aesthetics. Is playing around with readability, usability, etc, really such a horrible thing, on the portfolio site of a company known for their experimental approach?
On a side note, I was happy to see this is still up
- It is if it is poorly done. The problem, imho, is that it looks like a generic grid, with jumbled stuff all overformed
- I don't know what you mean by generic grid. Is that really the issue?ukit
- I looks carelessly forced. Their other work is loose and free, this feels like it is two things, mashed together poorly.formed
- Agree with formed on that one. You can do this style well, this is not done well.joshtrix

@formed I don't think they going for the whole Josef Müller-Brockmann look tbh

There is obviously someone there who is playing heavy into the fashion scene there - alot of this type and writing is really feeling like some indie fashion mag you would pick up on the street of Antwerp or something. Not sure if it's translating over that well, but it feels pretty inspired from something.
Fortunately, the work is still pretty strong but no where near as inspiring as it was years back. Their old Flash site circa 2004ish was a treat.

I'm familiar with the current anti-design aesthetic.
This ain't it.

WTF were they thinking?

Hi-Res! is what Hi-Res! does.
Done and done. Because Hi-Res! did it.

It doesn't bother me in the least...

@ukit - no excuse for making content harder to read on rollover - no excuse at all... anti-design / experimental / whatever - a portfolio website (correct me if its not a portfolio site and some kind of student experiment) should make the work accessible and easy to view - that site doesn't. End of.
