Is he sick enough that I should sell my Apple stock?
- sublocked0
Are you really taking stock advice from QBN or do you just want attention? Someone summon hedge please.

I'm in the minority, but I think they'll be better off after he's gone.

They might have to dip into that 50 billion in cash they have sitting around.

They just need to be doing product design as right now and to open up a platform a bit.. that's it.. I could live with a premium if they kept producing of high level polish they do now..
But I disagree CybrainX.. The money they made while Steve Jobs was/is running the show is the highest they will ever make because of the pure greed, insanely fascist like behavior and ultimate business model of being closed up and they control freak mentality Steve Jobs has..
There's only 1 Jobs with such unwavering greed and vision on how to make money. He's quite possible the best salesman I've ever seen in my life and he uses marketing as a weapon.
He made Apple into Sony of the 70s and 80s.. when they held the market and everything they made was proprietary up the ass. Jobs has always been infatuated and obsessed with Sony's business model from back then..
You can see that because his strategy was similar to Sony's but instead of Walkman, Jobs went with iPod and a lot of that success had a lot to do, if not exclusively with the success of iPhone and so on.
No doubt about it.. proprietary and closed up = money.. simply because you enslave your customers.. they can't switch easily to anything else once they've developed enough of equity into software and hardware and digital content that only works in the Apple eco-system..
This is why this whole model is awful and why I thoroughly dislike it. Not to mention the fact that Steve Jobs is just a bad human being in my eyes.. if you read books and articles about him that are well documented he's a colossal douche and shouldn't be celebrated for anything unlike Steve Wozniak who is really a fantastic human being and someone to truly admire.
It's very hard to respect a person like that.. to me he's nothing and I really won't be sad at all when he goes.. he made sure that we are going backwards in progress and not forwards on account of profits and the biggest issue is that a lot of other companies, including Microsoft study this model.. for every one of us as consumers this is nothing but bad.
Thank god for Google.. the only remaining bright star in the technology world. They ain't perfect but they certainly did more good in a few years than any of the tech giants have in decades.
- Pretty sure that Woz was the brains, and Jobs the looks.

I remember the days when Macintosh machines were cool and groundbreaking (yes I'm old). My first workstation was a Mac in 1985. I loved every minute of it. Today I work on both Macs and PCs and there's no big difference (except for the price).
But, there is a big difference in how Apple treats and relates to its users. Once it was an idea, a community, today it's a corporation (using corporation as an insult) that designs (pretty well) and sells overpriced fashion accessories for hipsters.
So, from being a huge fan, today I just don't care. That's what Steve Jobs has done to Apple apart from being an excellent salesman in my view.

i'm not sure how any of the nonsense above about an evil steve jobs apple eco-system comes in to play with the realities of using a mac for work...
wake up, check mail, open up adobe apps, do work, get paid.
the only reason forum dwellers have such high and mighty opinions about Apple/Steve Jobs is because they are nerds with strong feelings towards all things that you can stick a hard drive in.

fucking lol. well thanks for the insights. any other CEO's personal traits, history and insights you've been following?

Boz,
Seriously, I'm not trying to stir up shit and get your panties in a bunch again. I'm just curious how you can claim Apple is so evil, greedy and closed and then turn around and defend Microsoft as if it were not guilty of the same shit?
And before you start off on your "Apple fanboy" tirade, I'm platform agnostic. I love them both, for different reasons.
- profit margins. isnt that how ppl judge evil these daysdeathboy

At the same time Boz praises Adobe, a company that made sure they cornered their market, swallowed Macromedia—their only competition, killed their competing products and have been dictating and inflating prices since.
It took Jobs to free the whole web of Flash, the last proprietary technology and push it towards open ones.

Without getting dragged into this endless debate over which corporation is cool and which isn't...imagine if Apple had released the iPad AFTER Jobs died.
People would have been running around screaming that Apple had lost it without Jobs' innovation, that it was just a big iPhone, and that they were stuck on autopilot recycling ideas. So much of what we conclude as conventional wisdom is just a product of the framing and PR.
