I know this is primarily a web / print crowd, but I just finished my new motion graphics and direction demo-reel for 2011 and I thought I'd open it up to the qbn masses.
Check it out:

really liked that reel dude. very very nice. like your self - branding. liked the tune a lot too.
(im sure you've heard this before but just in case) if it were me though i'd shorten it down. personally i always think sticking to 1 minute or less for reels is a good idea, keep it punchy and put only the best work in there keeping the quality level high.
There are a few projects in that reel that compared to other works in the reel were nowhere near as good, id throw them out and only have the best stuff in. Obviously its difficult as you've already matched a lot of the reel to the audio track so its a ball ache.
thats just my opinion, really like it though!
i hope to have a reel as nice as yours in a years to come!

Thanks for the feedback :)
the length was a real point of contention -- I actually have a cut that a full minute shorter... ultimately it came down to the longer cut based on my reps feedback and positioning it mainly for clients...
but I definitely see what you're saying.
- awesome :) yeh i totally understand. you have to make sure the reel shows all the skills, for all clients.Hombre_Lobo

nice reel...very nice! :]

Very nice! Love the colors at the opening... (TV)
- Julesvm0
thanks OSFA that's good to hear... I was a little worried that the retro TV would send the wrong message... but I like the look of it too much to pass up

Great stuff!! Liked it a lot. I agree with Hombre, it should be shorter. Mainly because you are repeating some of the same projects throughout the reel, so no need to keep showing it.
Overall great work! Which 3D app did you use? And what was you responsibility in all these projects?
- Julesvm0
3d I use c4d and a little bit of maya where c4d falls short...
I've included work only where I'm either the director or one of the creative leads..
- Ramanisky20
like the others said a bit shorter ...
other than that beautiful motion work
Aces!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Julesvm0
like I said... the main purpose for this reel is in the room with clients trying to decide to hire me... so I actually added length based on some industry feedback... it might have been the wrong way to go but I'm giving it a shot.
- id hire you on the spot with that reelRamanisky2
- cheers... that's the desired effect :)Julesvm

That was a really good reel. I loved the intro, really dug the music you chose, and the work was excellent. I didn't mind the length of it at all, the music kept it flowing.
And I dig how you designed your name.
Well done, good sir.

really awesome work man!
personally, the reel's a little long for me (i'd say for a pro like you, 1:20 or 1:30 max would be MORE than enough time), and i would get rid of the "i like all the colors" clip—looks a bit unprofessional compared to the rest of your awesomeness.
overall, it looks like you show more than one clip from the same spot at times, which isn't always bad. but for example, you might be able to take out one instance of that train-running-up-the-body spot, and in the case of the asian girl playing guitar, the second shot of the cameraman filming her doesn't add a lot to your reel—the first clip was enough. i feel like there might've been one or two more instances of unnecessary, additional clips from the same spot, when you can just show the best bits.
but you know exactly what you're doing—you've got like eight years of experience more than i do, and i really really love your work.

thanks for the feedback mcmillions. I'm considering realizing the shorter cut into the wild, but that might be confusing. I'll wait and see.... I want to see what this reel accomplishes first. Truthfully it's been like 4 years since I last cut a reel.
ha, it's weird you've made me realize that I've been at this for a long time.... makes me wax nostalgic.

I see some stuff for Sprout TV on there, I always wondered who got to do their stuff. Thought it may have been just a smidget too long, like 15 seconds but I can certainly deal with it...but that may because you started to repeat some projects in there (or at least I thought so) and the pace kinda felt like it was slowing down. A lot of nice work and some stuff I think you can probably take out.
Dope nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

Outstanding work and reel.
I think that you could cut it to the 1:30-1:45 range if you prefer. However I wasn't feeling like your reel dragged on.

I think vimeo just shat itself...

I also liked it a lot. I loved the work and the music was a good choice (whatever it is). I didn't feel it was too long. I'd go with this length for a little while and see what feedback you get. The only thing I might look for that wasn't there was some interesting transitions from one piece to another. You have mostly jump cuts. Maybe not necesary, but the best reels have those interesting segues.
And there are definitely some mographers out there. We need more!! Keep sharing. I'm mostly a web/ad guy with some AE and C4D but I'd stick to motion graphics full time if I could.

Great stuff.
Where did you get that opening audio from?
- Julesvm0
the opening audio is a track from weird collection called "Music for a French Elevator and Other Short Format Oddities by the Books"
the books are phenomenal and I suggest you check out some of their actual music
