Olympus XA2 was my first ever camera. Xmas present from my parents in the early 80s. It still works and is going strong.
Used to shoot film on LC-A (with + mods), Holga and Smena 8m.
Just shoot digital now.

@Christian- Why the A-1 over the EOS1?
I've been thinking about picking up the EOS1 (v or n). They are top of the line SLR cameras and they're going for $200 on ebay. I think they'll be worth quite a lot in 10 or so years.

a1 is the simplest purist slr I think? EOS have too many extras.

"simplest" is not correct, especially for the a-1. For a completely manual camera, there is a lot of thought and movement required for one picture.
EOS has many features, and they can either be used or ignored. I guess I'm finally getting over a fairly long spat of using ancient cameras and I've really come to appreciate AF, auto film advance and a few other of the more modern features. I still get what I want from film, and I can still shoot in the moment.
- true.. Canon A-1 has program, aperture-priority,re... battery, not purely mechanicalvaxorcist

Are film cameras better in image quality than a digital camera like a cd is better than a mp3 in sound quality?
- no technically CDs are better than an analogue recording like digicameras are better than film.Dodecahedron
- but both analogue audio and film have a 'better' and more natural aestheticDodecahedron
- at this point it's more like how records sound better than mp3s.bigtrick
- So let's say, a medium format film camera would have a better result than a digital medium format?pinkfloyd
- a 120 camera CAN give amazing results, but often doesn't, it's trickier... less depth of field, more vibration,etc..vaxorcist
- medium format digitals are VERY tweeky.... Hasselblad HD40 requires VERRY precise focus and holding it right...vaxorcist
- bigtrick0
- how's the shutter / AF lag on these? which is fastest? I once had a very fast Ricoh AF Point and shoot...vaxorcist
- stylus epic has to poke out its lens before it shoots, so it's like 1/3s before it actually firesbigtrick
- af-10 twin is faster, but super-bulky and the lens probably isn't as nicebigtrick
- and canon sure shot tele is a ridiculous camerabigtrick
