saw that background illustration treatment on another thread here recently, You the same guy?

I don't think so...this is my first post for the site on here. Curious what the other thread was though?

not crazy about the html scrollers where it loads the image after you scroll (people pics), the preloader animations are a bit overkill. This page is image heavy to begin with, why not just load them all up.
Layout/grid is kind of an odd one.
Animation is kind of choppy too. I'm on a late 2009 MBP too (17"er fast cpu and 8 gbs of ram)
- I do like the transitions though, pretty cool considering its not Flash.fyoucher1

Not into the left justified-ness of it. Not into the staged quirky sameness of the people in your photos.

how many people does that agency employ???
the scrolling doesnt really work on the 'meet our staff' strip of images.

Well at least it is not another WP template, congrats!

It looks nice enough but there seems to be quite a lot going on with the shadows, quirky scrollers, fades and such. Do you need the staff shots in the work section as well? That feels as though it should be bigger. Nice though.

the scrollers grew on me, but very monitor-size-dependent. I also like to have a million windows open, this layout forces me to maximize the browser window, and I often don't do this due to my ADHD multitasking....
I did manage to lock my browser by clicking on the About section, then the Work section, scrolled up and down, clicked on video, then scrolled again and.. browser locked up (Google Chrome 9.0.597.98) but could be my overwhelmed computer due to ADHD...

thanks for the comments. There are close to 550 of those people gifs, so can't really load them all. Each employee is tagged with what they work on, so if you go into one of the client sections those employees move to the top of the column.

I like the site, it's quite ambitious and I agree with utopian, it's not a template. Nice hustle.

I think it is a cool site, but theres a couple things that stand out.
I feel the hierarchy is off. I like the client logo's on the left, you should keep it there, no need to shift.
I would like to read it, left to right... 1. clients 2. projects 3. individual project. My eyes are all over the place trying to navigate.
Use the whole screen, the right half is dedicated to that full print illustration, I would want emphasis on my work.

^ what they said about the people having to be in every section. All I get from those photos is that your staff culture is vanilla as fuck.
I hate the scrollers. Unwieldy, hard to click on and does this weird preloading thing with the staff photos that makes the scroll-targeting behavior predictive, as opposed to just showing the goddamn next content.
- It's a big agency, what do you expect for "culture"? At least they tried something different for being "vanilla as fuck".Andrew_D
- Get a lod of Quotes Mcgoats over here. ;-)Andrew_D
- "Lod"? LOAD!Andrew_D
- It's not different. Every fucking agency does the uniform candid photo shoot thing.cannonball1978
- Alright, I'll concede the photo section, it's pretty lame.Andrew_D

Also when i click into the work it's not front and center. The layout of the site dosent change ever, which makes your "pages" not feel distinctive" and meh.
- cannonball19780
it's clean and well crafted though from a grid perspective though so I'll give you that.

Interesting and risky... .I think most of it works, but it does require some mental adjustment compared to all the other semi-identical WP templates....
Some people won't get it.... and the levels of sub-stuff is not easy to layout in a way that makes sense all the time for everyone.

i think it's perfect for gsd&m. one of the better agency websites for sure. great job derekd, you guys at coloring book are making some of the best www stuff in texas.

Thanks for the feedback guys. We tried our best to balance the 3 goals of showing the work, highlighting the people who work there, and the community they live in. And we were definitely hoping it would be a little distinctive from other super minimal agency sites.
