not to be gross, but I wonder if he ever tried to cut it off himself. I think I would have at some point.

He wasn't born that way. It started when he was 14 and worsened over time, which is far, far worse, in my opinion. To know yourself as an average person and to see your body turn on you and make you into something the general public considers vile and repulsive has got to be the most horrible trauma.
He's got a kick ass family though. I thought he died a while back. Glad to hear he's doing better.
