"...the artist’s influence is also intended to infuse entertainment into the brand and its forthcoming products. " marketing speak
- he's going to infuse "entertainment" into the "brand" by being an "entertainer"Dodecahedron
- "infuse"Dodecahedron
- yeah, strange since Intel is mainly a B2B business.randommail
- The intel brand is on all the computers its in, so many computers are now entertainment systems for younger audiences. it worksDodecahedron
- younger audiences. it works.Dodecahedron

this is just a marketing ploy no?

i don't think it's the big deal you all are making of it. the guy seems to have a thing for technology. i'm sure intel didn't make this decision on a whim:
"And will.i.am isn’t entirely new to tech: In addition to being a producer, he introduced a new robotics game at the FIRST Robotics Competition this year."
- he just an endorsement he has no real ideas or ability. Is he stupid? no. Does he actually do anything at robotics companies and intel? noDodecahedron
- ....and for intel. no.Dodecahedron

I hope this guy creatively innovates quantum computing, non-lithographic semiconductor processes, 18-nm scale fabrication and optic interconnects. I think I might be asking too much though.

If you want to call it that, than yes.
But who hasn't sold out, so to speak? I mean what kind of work and client do any one of us work for?
- BEP's first 2 albums were fine. Made good money and got critical acclaim. But it wasn't enuf money fast enuf.randommail
- So they decided to go Pop, and asked the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls to join. She couldn't, so they got this other bimbo. The rest is dance track history.randommail

He said that old BEP was more of a test ground for them to understand and hone in their talents before they went mass.
– JSKA test ground to hone their talents? For 10 years? And what for - to end up producing dance tracks for a girl's nights out? Isn't this exactly what selling out is?
- JSK0
not so much a marketing genius, as much as a sell-out. Original BEP was actually decent music.
– randommailI don't know about being a sell out. Their goal wasn't to make good music. They just happen to make good music. They wanted to make money. They didn't really have core notion of idealism in their inspiration or creation.

I'm totally going to get an Intel chip put into my Macbook Pro!
- Intel's strategic vision is totally in alignment with my business needs.d_rek

It's just a quick way for these brands to get some publicity. Write a check and get in the news.
Of course it doesn't work. But hey, it's why these brands (Polaroid especially) are so desperate.

This is my take on it:
Intel or any other big companies have relied on agencies to come up with marketing ideas but they do not have internal visionary to come up with some crazy / wacky ideas. Apart from co branding and cultural association, it is a good move.
will.i.am is a great marketer. When Black eyed peas used to make good music (before the girl), they couldn't break themselves in to the mass market. They decided to use their talent to make pop crap to make more money. Got the girl, co-referenced J Timberlake to break away from their old shell.
Worked with will.i.am on some campaigns / promos for XBox and this guy was a genius at marketing for the masses. He said that old BEP was more of a test ground for them to understand and hone in their talents before they went mass. If he wasn't a musican, he would have made a great creative director.

- sellout? musicians are meant to make moneyernexbcn
- exactly - thank you JSK.sublocked
- I value JSK's comments. He's right. That's a solid process. Its very difficult to be huge in music.BenWeeks

If by "creative innovation" you mean annoying doofus, then yes.
- d_rek0
He will creatively innovate new and incredible ways of ruining an established companies reputation along with commanding a ridiculous sum of money for doing nothing.

If I were a CD there I would quit. I hate that companies name lame ass celebrities who don't have a piss of talent in their fingers over shit they have no capability of producing when there are real talented people who have worked their ass off in this industry and getting their education in a field just to be shat on like this.
This is why I don't buy anything from celebrity "fashion" designers.
