I was thinking of getting a s95 or Lx5, because SLR and Micro 4/3 is still too big to carry around. Anyone seen it in store yet? i can't wait...

looks ace, better than the S95 on paper. The other Olympus is also great, fixed lens large sensor, 23mm, if you've got a grand to spare?! http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/…
S95 is a great camera though.

Coming from micro four thirds, I can tell you the Olympus jpeg engine used for the pen series is incredible. Even considered to be one of the best ever.
Now if they use that same engine for that cam, I'd hold out for it.
Olympus are also very very good at high iso noise reduction.
(I have a gf1 btw)- How are you finding the GF1? I'm thinking of picking up one soon, it's listed at $899 CAD last I saw.meatball

@meatball
I love my gf1 + 20mm, it's great but the Olympus pens have their strengths too. There's a thread called 'micro four thirds', in there I outline the pros and cons between the pens and the gf1. Try the filter and see if it comes up (on my phone atm otherwise I'd find it and paste it :))
- Hombre_Lobo0
found it :)
http://www.qbn.com/topics/636491…Theres a shit load of information on micro four thirds cams and compact system cameras (like the nex 5 and samsung nx10) in that thread.
A few times ive compared the pros and cons of the pen vs gf1 etc. You'll also see GH1 and Pentax K-x information.

Hombre, your evangelism for the GF1 has me pretty much sold... that, and the pics in the himalayan field test article... amazing pics for a camera of this size.
One thing I've hated about not having a DSLR on my trip with me is bad aperture levels and just regular Point and Shoot focus... looks like the GF1 might be my next camera!- haha awesome!! :D
be really try out the pens, they are great too. Dont forget the E-pl2 is on the way!Hombre_Lobo
- haha awesome!! :D

I have had my heart set on the GF1 for a while but think I'm going to buy the LX5, its had such great reviews. i'm keen on the smaller size/price and thought the zoom lens would come in handy for filming, besides you can't go wrong with a Lieca lens....
- Hombre_Lobo0
also meatball,
What deal did you see for the GF1? was it with the 14-45mm or 20mm?
be aware panasonic changed the 14-45mm to a 14-42mm which is a tad softer, but still good, its just if you have a choice between them, the 14-45mm is better.The 20mm is incredibly sharp, ive seen many pro photographers, with high end glass go on about how amazing the 20mm is, ive had people at weddings with d700's go on about how amazing it is too, asking to 'have a go'!
but generally id recommend the E-PL1 IF you dont mind -
- the plastic case
-plastic buttons
-slower focusing
-screen black out from shot to shot, seen here -I went for the GF1, because it felt better, felt faster, quicker focusing, but the E-pl1 is great, better high iso shots, great OOC jpegs.
But as i said check that other thread i linked to, lots of stuff in there from me and other people, some QBNers have posted pics in there too :)

This is the GF1 link that Buddhahat very kindly pointed out.

thanks buddha! i forgot how good it was, it really swayed me when choosing! :P

YES YOU'RE WELCOME.

my recommendation:
for premium compact cam: Olympus XZ1
for m4/3 cam: Olympus EPL2 + Panasonic 20mm len- aslo E-pl2 will be out soon and doesnt look as cheap feeling, has better buttons, bigger LCD etc etcHombre_Lobo
- Hombre_Lobo0
^ahh you see, the E-PL1 actually produces slightly sharper pics than the Ep1 and EP2, due to its lighter AA filter...CONUNDRUM!
- meatball0
wow, thanks for all the info hombre. Those field test pictures are amazing. I'll take a stroll to the nearest shop and see if I can get my hands on one, I'll keep in mind what you said about the 14-45mm lens.
Depending on when this comes out, the x100 looks like a good option as well. It's pretty sexy & the augmented viewfinder looks promising.
- meatball0
Found the GF1 + 20mm lens on sale for $699 CAD... probably pick it up later. Thanks Hombre!

Why not get a full sized dSLR if you're going to be messing around with different lenses? At least with a Canon t2i for around the same price, you can get cinematic quality HD video out of it.
- Hombre_Lobo0
The t2i is an excellent cam, but it is much bigger and much heavier than a micro four third camera. And a lot of users care not for video.
I'm considering the t2i myself at the mo. Seems incredible, great video, great high iso. Would compliment my lighter gf1 very well.
- Hombre_Lobo0
@meatball
don't cancel out the pen series!
Make sure you look at high iso comparisons before you make your choice.http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/…
select the e-pl1 from one drop down and a gf1 from another and compare. be sure to download the files to your pc
too to compare. You'll see the oly pen does better high iso jpegs. If you don't process raw files oly pen may be better + it has excellent jpeg output, they are almost identical to the raws and have v good colour accuracy.
- Hombre_Lobo0
@meatball
I would probably buy an e-pl2 if I were you.
They are on eBay for £500, with a good lens, which has add ons (macro etc, wide angle).
Has a better LCD rhan the e-pl1, much better actually. Better case, better buttons. Looks nicer too.
AND the oly pens have a much much better EVF add on. And of course the oly pen cameras have in built stabalisation.
