The biggest energy creating ingredients in 5hour Energy and Redbull is B vitamins. Almost a decade ago a doctor, a trusted personal friend as well, recommended to me to start taking a B50 supplement (basically all the b vitamins in one) because I was complaining about fatigue and depression. This was before energy drinks were really around
I remember the first one I took with a McDonald's meal on my way home from work. I was feeling shitty and tired, like too tired to sleep sort of thing, too much caffeine too so sort of nervous as well, And immediately after the meal I felt a huge difference, like night and day. I went from feeling like I can't go another day to feeling like it was mid-afternoon on a summer's day at the beach.
Reason being of coarse is the vitamins. I and like 90% of the people in the western world are not ingesting enough b vitamins. They are found in meats in our diets, its in a variety of other foods like ginger root but we don't enough of it (ginger tea is an excellent source of B6). Problem being that all the meat produced these days is severely lacking in B vitamins creating entire populations of people with vitamin deficiencies. All the processed meat and the commercially produced non-organic stuff does not have enough vitamins anymore. There's thousands of people who are fatigued and depressed almost all day because they aren't eating the proper nutrition.
In come the energy drink producers who take advantage of this and instead of selling vitamin supplements they turn the supplement in to a soft drink and tell everyone it magically creates energy...its the caffeine! no no its not.
I figure you can pop a B50 supplement and a multi-vitamin over the day with a coffee or a coke and you're set (three meals too). Fuck those designer drinks. They belong to the same companies that are trying to destroy the supplement and health food community for the sake of soft drink products.
- plus you waste alot of $$$$akrok
- maybe he should have started at telling you to stop eating at McDonaldsfooler2
- yeah exactly. A bottle of vitamins lasts months a cost about the same as 6 pack of redbullDodecahedron

wikipedia on the subject:
"Another popular means of increasing one's vitamin B intake is through the use of dietary supplements purchased at supermarkets, health centers, or natural food stores. B vitamins are also commonly added to energy drinks. Many energy drinks have been marketed with large amounts of B vitamins 6, 120% of B12, 140% of niacin (vitamin B3)"[26]) with claims that this will cause the consumer to "sail through your day without feeling jittery or tense." [26] Nutritionists, such as Case Western University Professor Hope Barkoukis, dismiss these claims: "It's brilliant marketing, but it doesn't have any basis [in fact]."[26]
While B vitamins do "help unlock the energy in foods... just about everyone in America already gets all of the B vitamins they could possibly need in their diets... In general, extra B vitamins are just flushed out of the system, although everyone's limit of absorption is different in regards to B complex vitamins, and no-one knows how much is needed on an individual basis of these vitamins..."[26] The elderly and athletes may need to supplement their intake of B12 and other B vitamins due to problems in absorption and increased needs for energy production. Also, Vitamin B9 (folic acid) deficiency in early embryo development has been linked to neural tube defects. Thus, women planning to become pregnant are usually encouraged to increase daily dietary folic acid intake and/or take a supplement.[27] However, for "most typical consumers of energy supplements or drinks, B vitamins are nothing more than a 'gimmick'."[26]"

Back when i had my first kid, who was a terrible sleeper for 1.5 years, i tried all sorts of stuff to wake myself up, if only so i wouldn't die in a fiery crash while falling asleep on the highway. coffee would work for brief spells, but you'd really have to abuse it. 5 hour energy did NOTHING. i briefly felt warm, then back to sleepy. it really is placebo juice.
adderall, on the other hand, is the shit; if you're serious about being awake.

and feel free to cram your body full of vitamins as much as you want, your body will take what it needs and shit the other 1000% you just gave it right out...

I have started to really like 5 hour energy drinks when I'm snowboarding. I'll have half a bottle before my first runs of the day, and about 1/4 of it after lunch and 1/4 a little later in the day. It doesn't do a thing for muscle fatigue, but it does keep me pretty sharp and aware of what's going on. I was just out boarding today and this worked out great.
Big fan of Vitamin Water as well. They are delicious!
