iMac 2009 fan Noise

i have a pretty new imac. about once a week, it starts making a loud fan noise. when i turn it off and on, it goes away, but then comes back about a week later.other people have this problem? it anything wrong?

also, if its a pretty new computer, take it to the apple store while you are covered by the warranty.

mine did that right before the board died... it means it is overheating.

its bad RAM.
- i dont see how it could be the ram but he could do a diagnostics test on it to be sure********

Follow the steps on how to open your iMac and then just use compressed air to clean the innards.

use smcfancontrol if you feel it's necessary. it has good options for use. your machine might be just getting hot enough that the fan needs to run more than it does (usually very slow <900 rpm).

I had an issue with the fans randomly starting to spin at max a few years back on my imac. Took it to apple and they replaced a heat sensor which had failed, sorted it out fine.
