The interactive charting / infographic / timelines would need to be built custom or build a custom template for them.
GQ is very templatized. PopMech is some what different, I think they build custom content on top of the template layer.
Do you have an existing template that is flexible or fixed?

The plan is to build templates that can handle custom "bits" inside fixed pages of text/images. I shouldn't have namechecked PopMech because their one-off approach isn't feasible for us at all.
Maybe the New Yorker app is a better example, since the templates are mostly fixed but you can have video and interactive elements included.
Sorry if this sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about, because I really don't (hence our need to get someone on board who knows the ins and outs of getting that sort of content into a monthly app)

Only downside is that specially for magazines, editorial content / layout tends to get lost when you have a rigid template.

i hate talking iPad more than you.. i design bags for the iPad.. and my bosses only want knock off of the competition.. it is ridiculous.. we already have the 7" iPad mock up from apple and are already designing for that product.. but i am sure you were asking for apps and all that other stuff..
