But man, I always wear blacked out old school with my sport coats... Never had any problems. Just keep an extra pair of dress shoes in your car in case.
- Hackett?
Now where did they "borrow" that design from?
http://www.ilv.hk/up…Peter - oh...my bad. Hackett made some sort of collaboration there? A store and a watch maker?Peter

What the fuck, no sneakers or boots ? Like they think they anything they think are sneakers or boots couldn't be tasteful ? wtf ? They run a glorified pub with music and they're making assertions about design and clothing ?
Get real.
Phone the club during the day and explain to them that you understand they want to preserve a 'taste threshold' and actually, you completely agree, but that of the literally millions of designs of 'boots and sneakers' available, you honestly have the chops to be able to select a pair that will reflect your taste (you are a design professional), and compliment the ethos of the club.
I have honestly not heard of anything as pretentious in about 20 years.
Fucking kids.

when was the last time you went to a club in downtown?
they are all like that, they let people in wearing excessive gel and gold shiny v-necks with a huge ed hardy logo, as long as they are wearing casual shoes.it's insane

I worked in clubs for the best part of 15 years, all types, doing all jobs, promoting, djing, cloakroom, front of house, bar, cleaning, managing, and I've been to clubs and events all across the us and europe, and I honestly thought this sort of thing (no casual shoes) went out with the ark. Tasteful, rich, popular, social people, that every venue wants in them want to wear whatever shoes they like, and any club that excludes people only the basis of their footwear isn't going to perform as well as they could. Who gets in and stays and comes back is the most fundamental part of a producing, repeatable night - anyone who will go out of their way to change what shoes they'd wear to get in isn't someone that's going to do your night any good, long term. When a club enforces its notions of style and taste upon the people whose taste it should ultimately serve and court is bound to fail. I've seen it over and over and over again. It's a delicate and tremendously difficult dance to position a club brand, and absolutely nothing to do with types of shoe, whatever the music, scene, decade or city.
Do not go to this club, they've kind of made a fool out of you already, asking your peers what sort of shoes you should wear ? Sympathies if it's an event you are duty bound to attend, but if it's something aspirational, then mate - walk away and have a bit of sit-down, this aint the real thing.

Sorry to come across as a bit of a twat about the shoes, honestly I hope you find some real nice ones and have a great time at the club.
I'm just a late night whinger.
All the best.

sounds like you know what you are talking about, but this kind of bullshit happens STILL TODAY in most popular venues,
there is a line of idiots putting their best clothes to get the satisfaction of "being let inside by the big brainless guy at the door".I mean, I agree with you, but this is a good thing.
Maybe not for the club according to your words at least, but it lets me know that these sort of places are most likely going to be lame, and it gives a place to all the lame-os to hang on saturday night and stay away from the places I like and enjoy.
peace out
