Call the local office and ask them to sort you out.
You simply coming here won't get you a job. They will require you to have a visa in place.
Now, if you work for one of the big ad network companies, WPP, Interpublic, Omnicom, etc there is a good to get in here quick.

Unless you are in a long term relationship, there is a trouble written all over moving to another country for someone.
Esp when they tell you that they have 2 weeks.
Hope you talked to her about this. See what she says. "I am moving with you. Sort job thing out when I get there."

we've lived together for two years so it's kinda serious but i really don't want to have to get married yet. I work for one of the big network groups mentioned above so i'll see if I can transfer through them first. It'd be nice to work for a smaller agency though but i guess I should just appreciate anything I can get by the sound of it.

Its a delicate matter for transferring. I had to do it in clandestine manner as network has strict policy on transfers if self initiated.
L-1 Intracompany Transfer Work Visa
- Min 1 year at the local companyCan not apply for a job in in-network companies with out approval from destination company (immediate manager / HR)
- They have the option to let you go immediately with out cause.
- I found a job and went on a secret interviews without my originating company knowing. If you were to get an interview and before they want to extend you an offer, you must declare your self to the originating company that you are looking to be transfer.
- At this point, the originating company has the option to fire you immediately hence blocking your transfer.
- You require approval from your manager, HR, Global HR, Transfer HR, destination HR, and destination manager. After you get an offer, the visa process takes about 4-6 months.
The great thing about L-1 or transfer visa is that you are eligible for greencard after 1 year being at the destination company. And it takes about 6-12 months to get the greencard. I got mine in 3 months.

One more thing, most HRs are in destination company will not even interview you if you are from the same network. You need to find one who is willing to bend the rules a little.
Best thing to do is find a manager who will advocate for you and force HR to bend the rules.
My transit caused a shit storm at destination, origination and global network head office.

I've been in NYC for three years (I'm Swedish) working as a freelance photographer and I have only good things to say about it (and yes the women are smokin hot)
Best thing though is to sort out your visa issues before you leave Europe.
Good luck!
