"I work for one of the big network groups mentioned above so i'll see if I can transfer through them first."
Its a delicate matter for transferring. I had to do it in clandestine manner as network has strict policy on transfers if self initiated.
L-1 Intracompany Transfer Work Visa
- Min 1 year at the local companyCan not apply for a job in in-network companies with out approval from destination company (immediate manager / HR)
- They have the option to let you go immediately with out cause.
- I found a job and went on a secret interviews without my originating company knowing. If you were to get an interview and before they want to extend you an offer, you must declare your self to the originating company that you are looking to be transfer.
- At this point, the originating company has the option to fire you immediately hence blocking your transfer.
- You require approval from your manager, HR, Global HR, Transfer HR, destination HR, and destination manager. After you get an offer, the visa process takes about 4-6 months.
The great thing about L-1 or transfer visa is that you are eligible for greencard after 1 year being at the destination company. And it takes about 6-12 months to get the greencard. I got mine in 3 months.
