25 year, pretty damn good actually. But personally I like the full-on Scotts single malts, Have you thought about Irish?

You can get personalised bottles of the core Glengoyne range if you are buying for someone.
Glengoyne 17yo is a multi award winning whisky and well worth a shout.
http://shop.glengoyne.com/glengo…My personal favourite is Smokehead.
A peaty Islay single malt.
(nice packaging too)- Smokehead link ...

Talisker and Lagavulin are my faves, but its down to taste.
The map above illustrates the key flavours, usually given to the whisky by method and area.
Delicates are light, easy drinking
Rich means more sugary tatses, usually from sherry barrels
Light means fresh and gamey flavours - like the smell in a forest after rain (fresh)
Smoky comes from the smoke of burning peat and from the source water if the stream runs through peated fields - expect slightly medicinal / aniseed flavours. A good example is laphroaig which is smoky but not rich, whereas Lagavulin is smoky and rich (sweet).have fun!

I would imagine scotch doesnt taste much different than goat piss. And this shit will eat your liver, avoid it.

- I think it would help more if I knew what those flavors tasted likesseo
- are you new to malts or is there a brand you like already?hans_glib
- new, I've tried maybe two things on that chartsseo
- did you like them? if so choose something nearby. If not try something further awayhans_glib
- unless you like very heavy flavours stay away from the top 1/4 of the maphans_glib
- I've had Talisker and Bowmore 8. I like them but I wouldn't mind trying others just to know.sseo
- I think my next purchases will be that Balvenie and Aberlour. Perhaps move on to the left side latersseo
- enjoy!hans_glib

See, now I want to drink whiskey.
Fuck you.

I'd like to start drinking nice liquor - but I think I'd end up an alcoholic.
- if I had a bottle of Balvenie .. I'd be drinking now.lukus_W
- i think there's a lot of space between enjoying frequently and alcoholicscarabin
- i drink whiskey every day and at abnormal hours but it doesn't affect my health, work or personal relationshipsscarabin
- Hmm.. I agree - but if I drank as much as I'd like to, I think I'd find out what alcoholism is.lukus_W
- With me, I think it might be a question of _when_ rather than if. I have a tendency to self medicate too easily.lukus_W

Balvenie made a Signature 12 Year last year that was amazing. Turns out it was a short run, and I blasted through the bottle really quickly. It's even better than the 12 year doublewood posted above. Seriously, best Scotch I've ever had.

Thank Christ I can order it over the Internet.
