^ Yes and no.
Eli is now on the run from them feds, and staying with Al Capone who is now running Chicago with his brother. Which means Eli will most probably do anything Al says, so him and Van Alden could become something interesting.
Dr Narcisse is working for Hoover to take down Garvey, which means Hoover will probably give him some leeway with a few things and possibly allow him to continue his drug business.
Chalky has lost everything after his daughter got shot, he will most probably go on a rampage for the Dr now. Which means a man with nothing to loose vs a federal informer.
And nothing has been said about how Joe Masseria will react to everything, but I'm sure Nucky won't have forgot how him and the Dr tried to take over his shit.
Its just put a lot of things in place for next season, which I would rather than Masseria, Narcisse, Eli etc get killed during Knox's meeting.
- I think Narcisse is out of the picture now. That was his comeuppance, basically becoming a slave to a white man.ukit2

This show is great...but I can't help thinking there's a problem that shows like this run into, which that it's really hard to maintain a coherent story arc over multiple seasons. You saw this problem with Mad Men, which when it started seemed to be heading for a more interesting storyline than ever actually materialized.
So I'm still wondering if they will ever tie the various strands together in any coherent way. It almost doesn't matter since it's just entertaining on a basic level to watch the great art direction, set design, etc., and all the acting is top notch...but still.

I think its only a matter of time till Masseria gets taken out. And when that happens there will be a big shift to New York for everyone.
Capone will want to expand now he has Chicago and reclaim his Brooklyn roots.
Nucky will be interested in New York as a business move but also in whats going on with Arnold Rothstein and Margret, as they might become involved with each other more.
How Narcisse and Chalky will play out I don't know, but it could somehow leave Nucky in a position to have dirt on Hoover which again, could give him more power and an upgrade to New York.
I don't know how Sally, Lucky and Meyer Lansky will come into things.
But eventually, Al will be the big boss everyone knew him as so there is still his big rise to happen yet.
- Masseria was a real person. The show does do a lot of filling in the blanks, but its not rewriting history.CygnusZero4
- Just need to read about Masseria to know how his story will end. HBO would not fuck with things like that.CygnusZero4

A possible ending could be Nucky being sent to prison (which happened in real life), while Capone rises to officially become king of Chicago crime world. Showing the end of the politician/gangster that Nucky represented and empowerment of more brutal organized crime.

Best show. Just watched the season end. Wow. The fight scenes are like some Jason Bourne level intensity hah! Now we have to wait for the next season... ARRGGHH

Also should note - Narcise is an incredible villain. Wright deserves serious accolades for his performance.

i like the series, very much...but like this it can just last forever,it started about nucky, then capone, tomorrow after capone they can put another main protagonist...all these guys come in and out...i don't even know who's the main character...and where it ends...it seems as long as the series sells they will continue to make a new season, and ultimately destroy the series with quantity...one year gap, then 12 episodes and infinitely like that...where are the old times when we had series without a 1 year gap...it's already 4th year this thing goes on...i don't know what to think really...nothing solves...nothing really narrows...just seems that stuff gets more and more complex as it goes on...
- there was a lot of close, big characters die and now a big shift is about to happen for next season Capone for sure but Rothstein is lurking around74LEO

Which show will have more survivors? Boardwalk Empire or Sons of Anarchy? I'm betting on Boardwalk Empire.

^ Well we know its loosely based on actual people and that the character Nucky is based on was not murdered, neither was Capone, Lucky etc...so yeah...who knows how close to the actual events they want to keep it.

Get ready!

Christ, that was rough. 8 hours left and we're spending half of it in flashbacks to 1880? We understand Nucky enough. No more origin story.

I think this show has gotten too far away from what I loved about the first 2 seasons, back when it was really just atlantic city, booze and gangsters. It seems like it climaxed with Jimmy getting killed, and after that its too much politics, cuba, real estate, dull subplots, waited way too long to get to the rise of capone and luciano which feel like afterthoughts.
Season 3 was ok, last season I thought was mostly terrible. I just feel like they lost their focus, or maybe didnt expect the show to last this long so theyre making up stories along the way. Ill still miss it though. Some great shit in the first couple seasons.

I agree about the origin stuff. Its pointless right now. We know who this guy is, so you spend 1/8th of the final season to show us why he is the way he is, or how he got his start? I think if you watch this show you can put that puzzle together in your own imagination, really didnt need to spend an episode on that now in a shortened final season. smh

Im not sure what you guys think about this, but due to how little has been covered with Capone and Luciano, I was actually thinking maybe that was intentional with the idea create a spinoff series when those 2 are more powerful than they are on this show, which really only covers both of their starts. A new series that covers the events after Boardwalk when they both became very famous.

We still don't know why Nucky torched his pop's house though. This episode was our introduction to the Father figure who defined his attitude toward Good vs Evil. I wonder if it's an attempt to bring him full circle. In current day he's trying to become legit, but he learned early that it gets you nowhere. Curious..

Chalky was arrested? I need to rewatch season 5. I'm w ewo, the bs flashbacks, trying to tie everything together and being over literal degrades the shows original spirit, integrity and depth.

Shit! I didn't even realise it had started again yet! *not reading above, going to go catch up*
