ask if they are within a budget, dont give any number.
use words like - "I am looking for a 'Competitive' Salary"
you can hurt your chances at a stronger salary if you give a number.if they insist that you give a number give a range. of $10k-15k difference of what you want and what you will not go below.
but generally ask if they have a set budget and what that budget is. the interviewer may lie and denounce their budget to lower your salary possibilities.. so always give a range.
hope this helps. good luck!!

tricky.
go in with the amount that you know you will be comfortable with (as in living standards/vs/hours in the office), but not something you will regret (as in "I am making a ton of money...but I just realized the amount of time I will be spending at the office leaves me no time to do anything else."

respect yourself.
respect your time.
respect your experience.
respect your reputation.
respect your client.go out there and get yourself a raise.

yeah. i have a number in my head that i would feel comfortable with working there with the amount of time, so i'm just going to set that as my base for range. just weird. i have the tendency to sell myself short, so thanks for the encouraging words dibec....
we'll see how it goes...

Hedge would tell you that short selling is a good way to make a profit in a turbulent market... but that doesn't apply here.
