Is it easy enough to install an SSD Drive yourself on the new MacBook Pros just thinking a year or 6 months down the line when they get cheaper still.

I love how Thinkpads still have the red dot in the middle of the keyboard. Total usability failure.
Anyway, sure the specs are top notch...but then again how much do you really need? Are you rendering the Lord of the Rings battle scene on your laptop? At some point it makes very little difference whether you have 4GB RAM or 10.
- well it maxes at 8gigs 1333 is the type. too pricey for me but works getting me one.********

98% of people use 10% of the capabilities of their [insert whatever they own], is just a matter of feeling good about having the gear that "COULD" allow you to do a lot more.
Just look at the threads where people ask for help on picking their first dslr, or trying something new for the first time and not really sure what to get.
almost every reply turns into an insane competition of who can throw the most outrageous gear available on the market, as if it didn't matter that whoever did the question has no experience, is just looking for a new hobbie, or is a recognized personality in their field of expertise.

haha, it's so true. I mean think about it, computers companies like Apple bump up the specs of their machines every year and a half or so.
A "state of the art" Mac workstation from five years ago would be pitiful compared to the standard today. At the same time, can you honestly say that the work you are doing has changed?

Just to speak from a person who has one, I wouldn't recommend an air if you do design work.

The hate towards the Air here always made me laugh, ever since it was announced... Designers cannot fit it in their heads that Apple would make a device that isn't built with them as the target market in mind.
It is a great computer, just not for design.Get a 15" MacBook Pro, i5 or i7, don't buy SSD from Apple, from what I understand they pack slow models into their computers.
Add a gigantic display at home, sit down, pop the beer open, contemplate...
