something to do with soft selection maybe?
- harlequino0
maybe use a bump map or displacement map? Use extreme blacks and whites on the map to deform a plane, perhaps.

could you use the loft nurb between the text and some slightly bigger text to give the vac formed effect?
- i always confuse loft and sweep, one of them could work anywayitstimefortea

Call me an old fool (not that old), should you not figure it out, here's what I'd do:
1. Layout text in photoshop, print to a4
2. Fasten a4 on thin plastic, hard cardboard or similar. Cut out letters.
3. Get some latex or soft plastic from your closest homecenter. Wrap/thighten over the letters.
4. Add lightning, take pictures. Perhaps touch-up in ps after. If you're not that proficient in x software chances are that this would look more natural and dare I say it...better.
Also, you get a walk/exercise when getting that latex. And that feeling of having done some design with substance.

try a concave fillet cap?...might work

maybe use a plane to cut the back of a text object, connect the two pieces, place under a hypernurb and then use weight hypernurb on the front of the text? not the cleanest method but it might work.

plus global illumination

cut a hole out on a plane with the text and connect them, enlarge the plane and move it back a bit then smooth the nodes in between

put a sky on there... you should be able to find plenty in the contact brower... add something... anything and in the render setting just go render setting/effects/ambient occlusion and ender setting/effects/global illumination... makes a world of difference. dont ad lights... just an hdri on the sky

um?
put a wall an extruded text thru that wall, white textures and render with ambient occlusion?

i also find the greyscale gorilla light kit is great for getting good renders.

I know you've got to pay for it, but its so worth it. Plus there are some premade global illumination scenes in the content browser which can be a really good starting point.
